Can anyone id this jellyfish?
I had polyps covered all over my refusium and now the main tank.
Sometimes they seperate and become floating firm.
I don't seem to be able to keep the floating firm to grow.
Polyp is 1/8~1/4" long.

My tank is,
80F
1.025 SG
8.0pH
0 Ammonia
0 Nitrite
5 Nitrate
390 Calcium
No coral
Liverock and fish

It swims by moving the circle like thing up and down and has several short tentacles under it.
The circle thing has umbrella like frames.
It's hard to tell anything else 'cuz they're only 1/8~1/4 in diameter.

Yes, you're right. They always try to push their bell towards either surface of the water or the glass as you can see from the first photo. So they always end up trapped and die.

Most jellies will do that. No eyes and all... A true casseopia will settle on the bottom and be fine (assuming there is enough food) and their tentacles are in a larger bunch. Other than that I have no idea what you have.

Wow, I think you nailed it. The photos look realy similar to those in my tank.

I will try to raise them into large adult form and let you guys know.

Thank you all. :)

i have been keeping my eyes open in the forums, but have not found too much about jellies in aquariums. I strongly suspect that i have jellies developing in my aquarium, but haven't been too sure until recently. I have a number of small jellyfish-like swimmers. They have the umbrella shape and swimming method. I think i can see several "polyp" and 'budding polyp' stages of the jellyfish in my rockwork too.

I am curious can you see any of the polyp stages of the jellyfish in your tank?

I will see if i can get a decent picture uploaded.

i can't find the cord for my cameral/computer so i will upload in a couple days.

Anyone else have pictures of jellyfish showing up in their aquariums?

Is there anything to worry about with these little guys in the tank?

I have a bit of experience raising jellyfish but usually for jelly only exhibits. Chances are (depending on the type of jelly of course) they wont even make it past the ephyra (the little guys you have now) to the full-grown medusa stage from predation or lack of proper food/environment. If you get better pictures I would love to see them.

I have tons of polyps living all over my refusium. You can see those on the tree in the picture above.

They seem to like to live with lots of coepopods and enough amount of flow and tiny particles of nutrients in the water column.
Not more not less is the key.

One day I suddenly had ephyra bloom, that's when I knew those polys were the jellyfish's. :D
It was when I made 1/2 water change and accidently put too much salt in the main tank.

But all of ephyra dies after a few days. I thought that sticking to the glass while swimming was the cause.
Every since I saw only one ephyra during several months.

As you can see the entire rock work is covered with those in my main aquarium.
It looks cool. Specially when the water move, they move in waves. :)

I will have the cord for my camera in a couple days. Hopefully the pictures are clear enough... it is hard to tell detail with my lcd screen on my camera sometimes. I have the little 'tree' looking things too and see the little guys 'fall from the tree' from time to time.

The only thing that i can think of that might take advatage of these little guys is one bangai cardinal fish, or corals. The cardinal fish seems to ignore these things completely..... from what i have seen.

my livestock includes the one fish, large frogspawn, some mushrooms on one rock, some zoanthids/palys, and some various Acro's / montiporas. There are two filter type of hermit crabs that live in a couple holes on one rock, another crab/shrimp that i have never seen( but i find his exoskeleton every couple weeks or so), copepods, isopods, some scattered feather dusterers, and misc worms.
I run a bare bottom tank, and have the back corner of my tank full of chaeto. Equipment is one remora skimmer, T5's, and two powerheads for motion.

I feed cyclopseze, rotifers, and phytoplankton daily. I target feed the cardinal fish with a home made recipe, and always suppliment with selcon.

I have been very lazy when it comes to waterchanges for the past 4 to 6 weeks. but water quality has been great.

my ephyra are very new. as i have several show up in the past couple days, and see more on the budding polyps.

Anyway, just curious... what does it take to bring these up to anything larger. is it worth my while or dangerous for some of my inhabitants?

EllieN, thanks for chiming in earlier! I have been having a difficult time finding any great information. If you have any good links, i would be interested! I am almost tempted to start a second tank, and play around with these little guys.

anyway, thanks
