I noticed these white tube thingies growing between the zoa polyps. Anyone have any idea what they are?

I'll try and get a better one in a bit... If you go to the actual page on photo bucket it looks better. Rc seems to stretch it.

So after searching both sponges and tunicates on goold it looks liek it's both. I know I have tunicates, because they are all through out the rocks and sump.

Are any of these things harmful or should I pluck them out?

Unless you are feeding fine particulate food multiple times a day, I'd be willing to bet that is sponge. Tunicates are filter feeders and generally die from starvation in common reef tanks. They need a specialized environment where they get fed throughout the day and can handle the heavy feeding load. Are you sure what you are seeing in the sump isn't pineapple sponges?

Its a hitchhiker sponge. Its a good filter feedingsponge. Only thing thats bad is that it might suffocate the zoas its on by growing over it. You can easily remove it with your hands by gently scraping it away with your nails.

I'll consider it, If it's not harmful i'm not too worried and will see how it plays out. Also smoothdog I think you're right about the pineapple sponge.

I'm so glad I have this forum. Can't tell you how many google searches of "clear tube t hings reef tank" and different variations of that I've tried to do with no luck. A quick "pineapple sponge reef" search and there it is!

I would have a dead aquarium without this club!
