ID this Red Macro Algae

I have recently noticed this algae growing in my tank. Appears to only be on one rock but I need to know whether I should get rid of it or if it is safe.

Thanks,
Nathan

Just keep it & I don't think that belongs to a type of nuisance algae. It's still to early to identify this red algae for a few types look alike at the early stage.

Check out Gilf Coaxt Eco-System at live-plants.com. Reference guide tab. It looks like Halmenia Elongta.

Nathan,
That macro is safe and it is desirable. If you don't believe me, then get a Rabbit Fish, Fox Face or Tang. They will show you how desirable it is.

Thanks for all the replies! I can't remember if it is flat or not, I will check when I get home from work and post an update.

I took a look at Halymenia Elongata and it might be that but it is hard to tell as I can't find any pictures of how Halymenia Elongata starts out. Guess I will have to wait longer to see how it develops.

As long as no one thinks it is going to overtake my tank I will let it keep growing and see what it becomes.

Took a closer look and the algae appears to be very thin. Some has already disappeared while new grows have appeared.
