Hi,

Saw a lot of these in my sump, inside skimmer as well. Should I do anything with them? Are they bad? Will they mess up the pump?

Thanks!

They're limpets. Simple grazers on algae, micro-algae, and bacterial film. Overall they're reef safe although I don't know if they'll mess up the pump.

Has any RC member had any negative experiences with these guys?

Never had a bad experience with them...IME they cling so tightly to the rocks, or whatever, that they never got into my overflow, or into the pump.

The funny thing is I don't seem to see any in my main tank and refugium. They are in my sump and mostly in protein skimmer. I guess they were sucked in from the slimmer pump when they were tiny and just stay there.

We have a TON of them in the sump/skimmer and have had no real issues with them. We have a few stragglers in the tanks and have seen no damage - they just cruise around munching on the algae along with the snails. Pretty cool looking critters in my opinion.
