Idea : Advice Needed

I hope to have a custom built rimless 60 gallon cube "Nano" soon. I have talked to glasscages and had it priced with 3 sided starfire glass and the sump built on to the back. The tank is 24"x24"x24" The sump area will be 24"x24"x5" The lighting will consist of a single 400w MH pendant (not decided which one yet) with more than likely a 20K bulb since I will not be able to put actinics on it. (Light will be approx. 12" off the water) I have talked about it with some friends and everyone has said that they thought it would be a beautiful tank. I have never had a cube tank before or a custom built "nano". When I say nano Im refering to the sump being built on the back of the tank. The reason for this is because the tank will be sitting on the bar in our kitchen where my 29 gallon is now. Can anyone give me the pros and cons to the cube tanks and this idea. Thanks for all the advice and help. I will post pics after I get the tank and make a thread on this if anyone is interested. Thanks again and look forward to seeing everyone at the Expo.

Cool project, Rhett!

A couple of thoughts: I wonder if you'll regret not having more than 5" to work with in the sump area. I'd give that some serious thought. Also, I have a red sea max with a similar design (sump area in back), and I love that it has about a 2" square section cut out of the "divider" glass that serves as the overflow (it has plastic slits fitted keep snails out). It makes for a nice design with minimal chances for tank overflow. That said, I wish it were deeper. I only have about 3" of depth (front to back). It's fine for a tiny skimmer, but I wish there was room for more :)

I think one of these days, I'll put a small sump in the stand and use the back section of the tank as the overflow box like on a normal reef-ready setup.

I think you would be dissapointed with a 20k bulb on the cube! it will be way too blue IMO. A 14k Usiho or even a 14k coralvue might be a better choice and thats all i have to say about that!!!

I sent them an email with the design and asked for a price. Thanks for the link I appreciate it.
You are welcome. Ty is a great guy and does a great job on tanks.
