Idea for club equipment

I've seen some clubs that have purchased one of these to be loaned out to members...

PAR meter

which I think is the one that was being carried around the frag swap to test the PAR of different lights.

After reading about how flow relates to photosynthesis, I started looking at flow sensors like...

flow rate sensor

It doesn't look as easy to get data from since it needs to be hooked up to a computer, so probably wouldn't be good for a loaner item. I may pick one up eventually, but it will be after I replace more tank bulbs than I want to think about atm. LOL

At work we use flow meters to measure velocity of rivers and streams. They have small computers attached that give flow rate, but I dont' think the one's I've used would work in an aquarium environment all that well unless you placed it immediately in front the your aquarium pump. When the flow meter is placed into eddies or anything with backflow it has a hard time getting consistant readings. I'm afraid that with aquariums there is not enough 'one-directional' flow to make the flow meter an effective way to measure flow.

Of course that is just the type that we use, they may have other types that are commonly used in aquariums so ignore my post if I am obviously wrong. I just thought I'd input my experience with flow meters.

It would be awesome to have a club par meter! Good idea.

Even before I read my wifes post I thought this was a good idea (just kidding honey). 2nd on the PAR meter!
