idea for next years macna

Alright, so i was looking at the waterfest website (a watercooled VW and Audi convention/race/car show thing every year) and they had these shirts that i thought were pretty cool and maybe we could do a spin off for next years macna. I came up with this, tell me what you guys think.

HAHA Thats a great idea! That would be cool...Also I can print those, each one personalized with the attendees name, if you do decide on it- although, now that I think about it, after the conf, I am not sure how many people would still want them...maybe a pin on sign would be better...

Maybe getting RC to sponser something (even just the shirts) would allow us to use the RC logo and graphics. Non fish geeks would never get it... but then again there a tons of novelty shirts that are "inside joke" based.

Vince how would we do these at the show? I guess we could pre print them, or iron on names. At the show we could make one-off iron ons with a computer. I would prefer screen printing (being an ex-screen printer) but that is pretty much out of the question.

I know the guys that get them/ printed them for waterfest all just wrote their names on them with sharpie marker or something similar, but if we could get that iron-on paper and print the names out that would be even better, or anything more professional than a sharpie marker, that would be even better...

Maybe we could have people pre-order them and have the print-out already made and a few days before the show someone (one of us club members) iron them all on and have them sorted for when the people first arrive.

I have 2 DTG (direct to garment) printers. They are MUCH better quality than screen printed (washability is the same) but these print photo quality graphics directly (screen printing cannot compare) onto the shirt- there is no transfers involved. They are big, though, and cost about $15k each so I am not sure if I would like to bring one to the show. But if we took preorders, like when people register, I could print them befoehand and have them ready for folks when they arrive at the show.
Or, I could print out the shirts with everything except the name, then at the show, we could print out their name on a transfer and just press it onto the shirt in the name space. I have a press and printer we could use to print and press at the show...

If pre printing blanks, is it cheaper to use direct transfer or just have a few dozen screen printed?

Screen printing is only cheaper if you do many hundreds...It is too costly for short runs. I do not use transfers and don't like them as they eventually fade/peel or crack. But I just suggested transfers for only the name part not the entire shirt. My printers can print full color short runs of shirts that do not fade/peel/crack, which is why I mentioned it. The cost would be about the same as doing transfers with better quality.
