ideal mantis tank

im going to setup a mantis tank. i was wandering what you guys would do for his tank. not sure of what type of mantis just whatever i can find locally that will fit the bill.

i have 3 options the way i see it

1. use a 10 gallon tank i currently have and purchase a small hang on the back filter.
2. purchase an eclipse 6
3. purchase an all glass mini bow 5

i want to keep this as simple as possible. i dont want all kinds of equipment in the tank; its going to sit on my desk so the cleaner setup the better. i have no experience with any of the all in one tanks. are they worth the expense?

anyoen have an oppinoin on what the best option would be. or a different one?

The setup will depend on the mantis. If you are picking one up as a hitchhiker on some LR the 6 gallon eclipse would be fine just remove the biowheel.

why remove the biowheel?? nitrate accumulation?? i was thinking that mantis are suppose to be fairly hardy and a small amount of nitrates wouldnt bother them? i was hoping to lessen the water changes with a built in filter. i plan on growing some macros in the tank for nutrient removal. the mantis i get will most likely be a live rock hitchhiker. something small.

thanks for any advice

Yes remove the biowheel because the nitrate accumulation. I think mantis shrimp are tolerent but it would be better for the mantis if the water paramaters were similar to your reef.
