Ideas for haddoni species tank

Hey all,
I have been contemplating for some time about building a haddoni species tank. I have too much flow in my current SPS/clam tank and don't really have any low flow areas for one. And besides, my wife asked me when I was going to set up another smaller tank :D

Basically, I would like to be able to keep 3 or 4 nice haddoni specimens, they would be the main purpose of the tank. Here is what I was thinking, and am certainly open to ideas:

tank - 48x18x21 or 48x18x24 with built-in overflows

sump - not sure, maybe 20 gal under tank with powerhead for return;

two phosban reactors - one for phosphate remover, one for either carbon or poly-filters;

skimming - maybe aqua-c pro hang-on or in-sump model

in-tank flow - one or two Tunze nano's?

lighting - this is where I am truly undecided, and am thinking either like a T5 6 bulb Tex fixture, or 2x175w 14K or 20K halides.

and of course LR and 1-2" fine sand

I am trying to keep it simple as possible and without breaking the bank in the process. what do you think?

I've seen haddoni exposed to the sun at low tide, and others in tide pools at low tide and under those extreme conditions i wouldn't think the worry of PO4 was a big concern other then unwanted algae growth in the tank. if it's intended as an anemone only system then I'd just rely on regular water changes for water quality, and siphon off waste when you catch them expelling it. I'd go with the T5s over the 175's but myself I'd go with 250 MHs over the T5s just for the glimmer lines, looks allot better on the haddonis IMO they are shallow water critters.

I am not sure if that tank will be large enough to accomodate their growth long term. I bought a neon green Haddoni that was approx. 6" about 3 months ago and it is now approx. 10"-12" and still growing. When it spreads out is oral disk it gets close to 16".

48x24/18 would be a better size..

48x36x18-24 would be best.

i would decide on a tank size before lighting . t5 or mh will work

I am thinking that 48x24 120gal would be a better footprint too. I also like the "quarter-round" tanks but have no good spot for one....
And as for a skimmer, I am probably going to get one that is oversized so I won't worry as much about dirtying the water from feeding the 'nems.

I would go with MH. Remember these guys are usually found in shallow lagoons.

haddoni can be found up to 20m deep on the reef... or in 5 ft of water.... no way to know where your anemone has come from.

as for the aqua c hang on skimmers they are pretty much junk... some people use the pros with oversized pumps but for the most part they dont work very well

you would be much better served by real in sump or external skimmer ifyou have a haddoni spawn you will be happy you had the big skimmer.

I certainly haven't decided on the skimmer yet. The one on my current 300gal is a Lifereef skimmer and works quite well, but Lifereef usually has a several month wait list for their products. I do want to get an "oversized" skimmer since 'nems need quite a lot of food, and like you said, they do spawn occasionally.

I have also been searching the net for pics or descriptions of other haddoni species tanks and have come up empty handed, except for one old reference from Ron Shimek from several years ago.

there are not a ton of haddoni species tank which is crazy because they are hardy and the come in so many colors....

i think it will be cool.
