Ideas for transporting frags?

I am heading to the Cincy FragSwap this weekend to pick up a dozen or so frags. It is about a 4 hour drive home. Usually I take a big cooler one third full of my tank water and a heater with me, but how do I keep the frags from banging around against each other? Should I try to find some small disposable tupperware to put each frag bag in?

you might try taking some rubberbands and styrofoam. Cut the foam into little 1-2" squares. Make a small hole in the middle and push the base of the plug through, or rubberband it to the styrofoam. The frags will float upside down during transport, minimizing the banging around.

Specimen cups.

Yeah, styrofoam or plastic with the lids. Don't want any chemical warfare going on with all the new frags in the same container.

Definitely take the cooler though to put them in. Maybe a heat pack instead? I can imagine that its pretty cold in Cincy right now? I live in So Cal, we don't even know what cold means.

Any idea what you are coming home with? Zoas you could probably put in the same container, but other more aggressive corals might get cranky.

Have you thought about preparing fresh salt water to bring them home in. Let the water "cure" for 24 hours and have it up to the right temp and such, but then they have a fresh bath to ride home in.

You can build a frag rack in the bottom of the cooler. Use the same eggcrate material and cut and build a rack that stands off the bottom of the cooler about 2 inches. Then the plugs will fit right into the holes and ride the correct way up.

I also agree that floating the styrofoam upside down would be the best way if you can guarantee they won't slip out of the foam.

Good luck
