Ideas on shipping coral

I am currently searching for a stryo foam box that will fit inside the USPS express shipping box however this is like a needle in a hay stack. Since I am not able to find this, I was going to use packing peanuts. I have a large trash bag full of these that I keep for shipping things out. I planned on placing coral in bag which will be triple bagged, which in turn will be placed in express box and then I would place packing peanuts completly around entire bag. I would then place an 18 hour heating pack (unless I find a long hr one) into the packing peanuts. For the ones who have shipped corals before, would this work, or could you give me better ideas.

Maybe you can try a bait shop for a styrofoam box or ask your LFS if they have one sitting around. I wouldn't tell the LFS you are shipping corals or they might say no. When I ordered corals from LA there was a heat pack but I don't remember anything else unless there was newspaper in there. Just make sure the coral is secure & you should be fine w/ everything else.

I just received a very well packed shipment of coral. The seller used a styrofoam box, as most (all?) do, but I think what you're describing might work.

My box was packed this way, from the inside out:
triple bagged frags in water (no air in the bags)
newspaper to fill in gaps
heat pack taped to the inside of the lid
styrofoam box taped closed
cardboard shipping box with heat pack on the bottom

What about making a 'box' out of styrofoam pieces? I've seen sellers do that, basically cutting pieces to fit, to line the cardboard box. Tape the edges up with packing tape; it might not be perfect, but it'll insulate pretty well. Then use the peanuts to fill in gaps inside the box.

I just recived a frag order from an rc member and he had styrofoam cut to fit in the box. He also taped the corners together and lined it with news paper.he shipped it from maine to me in washington state and the heat packs were still warm and corals were exellent.i recieved frags from vendors last week also and thier heat packs arrived cold.newspaper seemed to work great.

Just an idea if u cant find boxes to fit.
