I recently discovered two different creatures. One made it into my tank. The other did not. The one that did not looks like some kind of nudibranch. The other is happily grazing on algae on the rocks in my tank and looks like a very small abalone. Both are about 1/2" long. Anyone know what they are? Good or Bad?

Well if there eating algea there probably no harm but if it dies or is stressed it could release toxins so be careful

Forgot to attach second picture.

This guy looks like a stomatella, which is the unsung hero of the hitchhiking CUCs. I used to have tons in my tank but they've been predated to obliteration. I miss those guys. :)

Edit: First one looks like some sort of sea cucumber, also harmless.

Yeah, first one is a sea cucumber and is harmless. I have one just like it. I'm not sure on exact ID, but the ones in your picture are filter feeders and are not like the big fat ones that consume sand, grazing off the food, and poop out clean sand. I have two of those deposit-feeding sea cucumbers.

My filter-feeding sea cucumber likes to pick a high spot on the glass or a rock and stays put. It sends out those branch-like structures to feed. The deposit-feeders move around a lot more.

I agree that the second one is probably a Stomatella. I think it is NOT one of the two most common species, though. I think it's Stomatella planulata.

I got a better look but not a picture. The shell has the same hole pattern as an abalone. I'll try to get a better picture if the opportunity presents itself.
