Identification Please

Can anyone help with this identification? It's growing on the glass, and started small. Each new "arc", when looking from the base, is larger, forming a cone-shaped creature. From the side/top, it looks like one of those spiraled shells.

I can be positive, since I've never seen one growing against a flat surface, but it looks a lot like a Worm Snail. It's not going to be this species, but it should give you something for a comparison:

are the swirls calciforous (SP?) or soft?

Lemme touch it. I'd guess hard shell. Notice the long thread-like thing protruding from the opening. I'm guessing that's some sort of feeding string...
