Idol Tanks

mtndewman's tank before the dsb crash. This is the tank that gave me the motivation to start keeping sps:

That tank was awesome. Didn't know it crashed though.

Ditto on Reefcrazed's tank, I was over there a week ago and wow he's about due for another TOTM.

Wayne Shang's tank for me:

I have seen many tanks in my time here on RC, but Mutagen's is still one of my all time favorites, the only SPS tank I know of that was designed for top down viewing.

theres his feature, unfortunately the tank had some type of top off mishap while he was away on business and the tank crashed, im not sure if he has a new tank now or not, he isnt on the boards much anymore.

Funny, how all these tanks are ginormous!!

I would say my fav is Julians Sprungs 15 gallon really shows how you can make a lot out of a little! Wish I had pics, but cant find em. Anyone else have any nanos they idolize?

And I think you're being very kind. But it really was Shang's tank that gave me my first visual motivation to go all out with the hobby. Several of the stunners above have helped KEEP me going since, but his was the first.

Funny thing about the nano mention above: A few years ago, I remember someone posting a nano that I thought was one of the most beautiful reeftanks EVER, regardless of size. I stupidly never bookmarked it and I haven't seen it since but I've always considered highly motivational.

Btw, you can link to my site (now updated MONTHLY) by clicking on the little red house.

Seeing pictures of a few of the fabulous tanks, and then learning of the crashes, kind of takes away the joy.

Here's one of my inspirations:

The fact that Playfair was able to have such an amazing thriving mixed reef with 175's gave me hope that my 175's could be successful.

I would like to know the same if anyone has any info. Rob's tank was very impressive. I think he went overseas for some time and then when he came back he sold his corals off and tore his tank down. Never heard anything else after that. Anyone know if he is still in the hobby?

In Christmas of 02 I picked up a few pieces from a friend of his in the Northern VA area. I was told that some the large pieces in his tank were form ROBZ's tank, and that he had torn his tank down and had not contacted any of the local reefers since. There is another N VA reefer with quite a few of his pieces as well; he can step forward if he wishes. Rob coined the phrase Miyagi tort, but it was not his piece. He thought the owner resembled Mr. Miyagi, I think it was red necking more than anything. Funny how names are given to certain pieces.
