If only one fish has ich...

Hi all,
I introduced a fish that has ich - it just has a couple of spots on it - is the rest of the tank infected already? Can I remove the one fish and hope that the rest of my tank is still ich free or is it too late...?

Sorry if this is a repetitive question...I couldn't find the exact answer but perhaps I missed it..

thanks

best to assume that everyone either is already infected or soon will be. it is highly likely that ich has already jumped off that one fish, encysted somewhere in the tank, and will soon, if not already, hatch thousands of new little ich babies.

unfortunately your only reasonable remedy would be to remove those fish, treat them ALL with TTM or copper, and then leave that DT fallow/fishless for at least 72 days. if you choose to eradicate the tank of Ich.

are you sure the spots are Ich and not Lympho though?

you know that feeling of doom that sets inside of you after reading some bad news. I feel numb inside reading it.

Well, he's flicking his tail and doing a bit of a shudder every now and then so I'm assuming he's uncomfortable.

Sigh. I have a 20 G QT tank but I fear the fish will die in that tank for those 72 days..

ugh.
