If you had roughly $1000 to blow on a skimmer...

... which would you chose and why?

I'm thinking that the AquaMedic Turboflotor 5000 Twin would be the best at removing DOCs but could I be wrong? :reading:

How big of a tank would this thousand dollar skimmer be going on?

Well I don't think you can over skim an aquarium so tank size is irrelevant in this case. It's more about raw performance within the $1000 price range (give or take $500) ;)

If I had another grand to blow, I would get another Deltec without thinking twice. Especially if I lived in the UK. You can probably get them much cheaper than we get here in the States.

My vote would be either deltec or bubble king. Both are very efficient at removing the bad stuff with the least amount of energy. Plus, the red-dragon pumps are just too cool.

I'd get an overpowered Recirc Euroreef and spend the rest on something else...

In the grand scheme of things, I don't think ANY skimmer is worth 1000 bucks, unless you're talking custom and on a tank that's over 1000 gallons. A 1k skimmer may marginally improve skimmate and may perform better than the a 500 skimmer, but do the math, and it's not worth it when you can invest that extra 500 in corals, or the kids college fund.

True.. you could invest some of that cash on more important things, but lets say you had a $1000 voucher to spend on one skimmer :D

In terms of absolute air injection actually I'd say a beckett and run it off of say a sequence uno tarpon or something.

In terms of what I'd personally probably buy? A Deltec 851. I'd have to say of all the skimmers I've bought and used one of the most dissapointing was the euroreef recirc unit. Just a dog. and noisy. It's sitting in my office disassembled right now...I can't even bring myself to sell it. I think the non recirculating one I had once upon a time was better frankly, but for an assortment of reasons personally I prefer external units.

If I had a grand for a skimmer....I'd be lying to my wife about something.

Go with a Reef Concepts Aerofoamer. Run it on a timer for two hours a day, you will be amazed at the gunk it pulls out. Mine is on a timer because after two hours it has pulled everything its going to pull out. Being efficent and running it on a timer will start paying you back in saved electricity costs.

And do get the reef concepts waste collection container.
