If you were to add tangs to your 180g....

Hey guys!

I'm looking to add some tangs to my 180 g system and I was wondering how many you would get and what u would get

As of now I've been thinking about
-chevron
-sailfin or purple tang and a yellow or powder blue
Achilles tang

I would live a gem tang but the price is innnnsane. Beautiful fish tho

Let me know what you would do! I want a Achilles bad but I've been thinking about saying screw the chevon

I have a Sailfin and a Purple tang and they get along pretty good. My Sohal Tang is the one who is the aggressor and likes to go after the other two. If you want an Achilles, I heard that you should add him last and he needs a lot of water flow.

I have a Regal, Powder Blue, Yellow and Tomini. I'm all Tanged out, and think I'll be re-homing the Hippo...he's just getting too big.

I have a kole and a sailfin in mine and the sailfin is pushing it for size, I'm not sure 180 is big enough long term as sailfins get pretty large. The purple and yellow both stay a lot smaller than the sailfin and would probably be better. I think the chevron is a great choice, I like the bristletooths in general as they eat a lot of algae other tangs dont. Achilles are touchy and I wouldn't personally mix them with other tangs in a 180. Order of introduction is going to be important here but I think 3 smaller tangs in a 180 is doable.

Just make sure you like the Chevrons adult coloration, many people buy them without knowing that they actually change colors as adults. I have seen many adult Chevrons for sale at low prices because people think they are ugly. If you want an Achilles I would add it at the same time as whatever other tang you decide you want. Have you looked into Black Tangs?

I got a baby Convict Tang a few months back. Super peaceful, and different color/pattern than the usual Tangs you see.

This is an early pic of him. He is bigger now. His top fin yellowed up more, and he darkened up just a bit.

If you decide you want the achilles I wouldn't get the powder blue as they probably won't mix too well in a 180. Also if you get the purple keep in mind that they can be pretty aggressive towards other tangs, so don't add him prior to adding the other tangs make sure to add them all at once, or adding the purple after. As said before, order of introduction will be very important.

And there is this, I would agree that these tangs would probably fight in a much larger tank. I've had three tangs in my 180 on several occasions and always had success when they were from different genus and didn't look like each other.

I wouldn't do a salfin tang in a 180g. it's too small for long term care.

Definitely don't keep both achillies and powder in a 180g as they will most likely fight to death. You will need a much larger tank to successfully keep these two look-alike species long term.

I would just pick one Acanthurus and one Zebrasoma and call it a day.

I'd go a lavender tang, as they are pretty peaceful, grow small and have that acanthurus look that everyone loves and a yellow eyed kole tang, again small and beautiful.

Both of these will also graze any algae in the tank.

I'd do powder blue, tomini or chevron, and purple.

I would pick Black tang and Powder blue, although I have a black and Achilles lol. Now there are to many dark fish in the tank.

I currently have a Blonde Naso, Purple, and Tomini. Im not a fan of the Tomini but it is an algae eating machine!
I would not add both a Achilles, and Powder Blue. Those two would most likely not do well together in a tank of that size. You would probably have bad ich issues. As already stated make sure you like adult coloration of the Chevron. They are very cool looking as a juvi but not so as an adult.

Ok i decided to go with,

chevron
purple
achilles

Ill add them in this way.
Thoughts on adding the chevron / purple at the same time DD has both and i picked up the chevron.

Should i wait to add the purple until i get the others fish i want before adding the purple and achilles?
