I'm a UV believer!

Hello Everyone,

I recently posted pics of my ich infested Powder Blue tang. Everyone had good advice for me.....and I actually followed it!

Thanks Just Dave: I installed the Aqua UV sterilizer and POOF, in the first day, it looked like my fish were flying in air! The water is just that clear! I also replaced the filters and membrane on my RO unit at the same time (TDS read 34 ppm before change). I re-installed my sponge filter pad with the Pura filter in the old bioballs section of my sump.

Thanks Andy: I turned my sump into a beatiful "white noise" maker (ya' know, the soothing sounds of the super soft trickle of water....come on guys, get in touch with your femanime side). Andy showed my how to eliminate the 14" water fall into my sump (i.e. mini Niagara falls when the house is quiet). For about $4, I connected two 10" pieces of PVC pipe with a connector to the bulk heads to my sump! The water flows from the prefilter, into the PVC in the sump, and down below the water level in the sump... It's amazing,...Niagara was turned off! (YES, the little advances in this hobby STILL amaze me.)

With help for Andy, Chris, and others, I now haw an Aquafuge that is on my sump and looking good!

Thanks again, to everyone, for all of you help and advice. My Powder Blue is completing week #2 in his "Fish Hospital" (per my daughter). The copper treatment has served him well and he looks great! He will stay in QT for another 2 weeks before "movin' on up... to the East side"!

(Of course, I will post before and after pics soon.)

Cass

P.S. Sorry I missed you all at the Christmas party (parents were in town for a weekend visit and it would have been wrong to shake 'em)!

Due to the shallow canpoy covering my plastic tank, I will Never have halides (unless I sell a kid a buy a new canopy!). The Tenacor engineer summed it up in one sentence: "Halides on your set-up will melt your tank!"

So PCs for me. BTW, the RBTA is looking great. It has me feeling it may split, yet again!

What about T5 I have seen them used without a heat problem and set up in the hood at angles to get full coverage?

T5's were mentioned as an option. If I recall correctedly, my current PC combo provided more intense lighting than the then proposed T5 option.

I am no expert on lighting but from what I have heard and seen I don't think so. I know some others that use the T5s and keep sps. How many PCs and what watt are they?

T5s with individual parabolic reflectors (like a Tek Retrofit) blow away PCs in terms of light output and PAR into the tank. If you put some quiet fans on the canopy things should stay nice and cool, and you'd have plenty of light to keep anything you wanted to.
