I'm BAAAAAAaaaaaack!!! Sort of....

Hi again everybody!

I used to be an MTRC member and frequest poster here a couple years ago. I had to sell off my stuff due to moving, career change, and marriage! (that and being broke!) I still recognize about half the names here on the forum, so that's cool!

Well anyways, long story short is that I hope to be back into reefkeeping soon (like 6-9 months) and I think I'm going to start small this time with a nano of some sort in my office (that way it's a business expense!!) I'm at about the 1.5 year mark of my business, so I'm just starting to turn a little profit and hopefully will be able to set up my tank right from the get-go this time around. You sure learn a lot in setting up your first reef!

I think I'm going to do a 24g nano of some sort with really strong lighting so I can keep just a few (8-12) REALLY nice SPS corals and a fish or two, with some interesting crustaceans.

I guess I'm not really posting to start a conversation or anything, just a re-introduction of myself. I look forward to starting back up with the club again, too. You guys are just awesome!

James

Welcome back James. I was wonderin' what happened to you. Glad to hear you gettin' back in. That setup sounds good. I know my next tank will be SPS only (mainly montis) and a few LPS. I've had it with zoas, xenia, kenya trees, green star polyps, yellow polyps, etc. Can't stand em anymore. Except the nicer zoas, they don't seem to spread to quick.

Take care,
Steve

Hi James,

Sorry to inform you those Peppermints I got from you died awhile back after they wiped out every single type of anemone in my tank.......They were good Shrimps for that time being......I just wish they would of accepted food from me like my other one did.....

Thanks for the nice welcome back, Steve! I sure missed this place. (and the fish!)

I'm sorry those peppermints didn't last for you, Michael, but I'm glad they got rid of your anemone problem! They were the reverse in my tank! I think they figured what I fed them was easy pickin's and didn't fool with anything else!

Thanks Gary! Yea, the bug bit me hard, and it was just in remission the last year or so!

Life is good! I'm not going to lie and say the last year has been a piece of cake, but I gotta say things are awesome! Marriage takes a LOT of adjustment that I'm sure will never stop, but we are starting to find ways to deal with each other and resolve conflicts. I've laid a solid foundation for my business at an early age, so while I may not be swimming in cash now, the future is bright. Things at church are going well and our teen group is just incredible!

What about you? When did you move to Alabama, and why?

I hear ya on marriage, man... just 1.5 years here. :) Great stuff, though... people change and people grow, the key (to me, anyway... and also one of many) to me is growing and changing TOGETHER. :)

Anyway, got any Suhrs? Andersons? Maybe a Tyler? ;)

What amps do you have?

Brandon

Continuous tweaks, but they become more fine over time. Once you understand the response, it makes it easier to troubleshoot:D. Spoken like a true engineer, huh.

I moved down in April. Jenn moved down in January with a promotion. I was kinda tired of my job, so I figured what they hay. The rocky boatride of the Countrywide/Full Spectrum Lending fiasco has been fun. Jenn's entire office was laid off 4 months ago... Fun fun. She'll find something soon, I hope. I'm getting adjusted to my job, finally. Big culture shock (well, the entire move to Montgomery has been a huge culture shock from anywhere else I've lived). As long as I stay in the house and don't have to be on the road with them, I'm cool. Third world countries have much better drivers than Montgomery...

Hi Chris! How's life in Knoxville? You runnin' your own Vet clinic yet? :)

Brandon, I don't have any super fancy guitars, really. Just a Fender Texas Tele (love that thing, and I HATE country music. CRAZY!) and two of the really nice Ibanez lawsuit era guitars, a 1981 AR350 deluxe doublecut, a 1977 P300 (like Frampton's Black Beauty) and some cheapies I knock around. I really like the way those guitars are built, and they're really under-appreciated so you can still actually afford to buy one! I mostly play bass, but only have one bass guitar right now, a Yamaha BB series passive 5 string, played through all Ampeg gear. My dream bass (when I get about $3,000) is a custom built LEJ5 from the Low End bass guitar shop there by the Harley dealer on N Broad in the Boro. If you haven't been there yet, check 'em out!! Absolutely incredible stuff. My favorite guitar amp is my Rivera M100 4x10 combo. I got it for a steal while I worked at Corner Music in Nashville. What about you? I saw your s/n yesterday and said to myself, "there's a guy who knows his gear!" I went to college in hopes of becoming a recording engineer or live sound tech, but then realized I'd never make as I don't want to listen to that same song 1,000 times a row in the studio, nor do I want to live on the road. SO, I focused on the business administration side and that's working out OK. I'm hoping that as my business grows, I'll be able to build a home studio and enjoy that as a hobby, instead of being committed to it. Besides, I'm not the greatest engineer on the planet by any means. I'm a little odd in what I like and many others don't agree with my philosophies. Maybe we can meet up some time! What kinda' music are you into? Or... put it this way, what were the last 5 artists you listened to?

If I start, I may rant all night... Selfishness is the biggest thing. The service industry leaves a lot to be desired. It's just not as happy a place as Nashville. You can feel the tension... I don't like tension;).

Hey James, I recently picked up the bass. The Low End is AWESOME! I would give anything for a LEJ4. Brian and Beav are good people too. Right now I just have a cheap SX bass and they was cool to set it up and do some work on it for me. They have some amazing basses though.

I do miss Nashville. I'm a Tennessee boy (not a fan:D). The people here are nice enough, as long as you aren't in the car. The vast majority of my angst comes from my 12 mile ride to/from work. XM doesn't have the effect in stop and go that it had on the long drive to LaVergne in terms of calmatives;).

Maybe you just need something thats a little more "fast acting" than music. :D

j/k Then you'd be driving like they are, albeit possibly a little bit less stressed. ;)

Hey James! Been reading any "good" books latley  (inside joke) How ironice I logged on tonight and just set up your old 55 I got last night!! I am getting it up to frag out some favs to keep and getting geared up to have a big liquidation sale soon. Don't remember if I mentioned last time we talked we were building a new home and going with an in wall tank. Just gonna save a few favorite corals and fish in a 55 since we will more than likely be going into an apartment before the house. We are putting our house on the market in Feb. hopeing it sells by August since the market is so bad right now you never know how long it may take. A 55 will be much easier to move around if need be. Good to see you back lurking and glad the buisness is doing good. If anyone needs insurance James is your man. Yes A shameless plug for ya ;).
