Hey everybody, I have returned. I was a MTRC member 2 years ago and had to move to Florida for work. When i departed i donated all my fish to the MTRC threw Wayne.

I'm in the middle of building my new 50 gallon sump and should be filling the tank with ro/di water in a week or 2. Hoping once i have all my water and base rock installed that i could get a few things to start the cycle process off.

Glad to be back, hope to come to the meeting on the 23 and rejoin the club. Once i have my tank all up and going again, i plan on hosting a meeting at my house next year.

??? :eek2:

LOL.. i will try to get some taken tonight and post them. Its still being finished but it looks great so far.

hay glad to see you back do you still have your solaris lighting? any prob with it? I can not remember what fish you had may have some still around or they may have gone to some of the new people. Let me know when you are ready for some stuff though you will have to come over.

Still have my solaris 72" 400w version. I bought it new (I was the very 1st person to get one by the way, so mine is not American built). I installed it and ran it for about 1 month until i moved. It has set in the house and not even been turned on since i left, So i cannot say if its gonna be OK or not. I see that PFO went out of business so if it messes up, i guess i'm screwed.

I have a few clowns, a lawn blenny and a few baby permit.. When i get the sump rebuilt and the rest of the aquascapeing done. I hope to borrow some live rock, or have someone cure my base rock into live rock. This way my cycle should have some help getting completed.

Any idea how long 300 gallons of ro/di water is gonna take to cycle?

Sweet, ill bring those rocks to you on the weekend. I still have your number wayne providing that its the same.

OH your supposed to add salt?? i guess that's why my corals kept dieing.. ;)

You can't turn base rock into live rocks! Unless it was live at one point!!! base rock will always be base rock. Welcome back! Fish donated to MTRC? I don't remember that, you mean to a specific member? :)

It use to be live rock, but has been dry for about 2 years. I thought that you could make base rock live by letting it sit in a sump and getting living things growing on it. Is that not true?

The fish was given to Wayne and he gave them to members in the club that was just getting started to help out.

If it was live at one point then YES it will be live again if you place it by other live rocks. If it was base rock to begin with would be considered live base rock not live rock. It has to do with the organisms that can live within porus rocks to filter your aquariums. There's other stuffs as well. You can google it to see what I'm talking about.

I'm gonna be honest... this makes no sense what so ever.

If you define live rock as rock that has bacteria in it, what makes it live, then any rock can be live.

Explain what you mean, Michael. I don't follow.

Google it brandon google it! I can only type so fast on a iPhone. Plus too much to explain. As much as you are here and as much messages you have posted I'm surprised you didn't know about this. I also have a hard time explaining it! I did my research years ago on this very subject when I was told about it. Google!!!! I did!

Never heard that before, regardless of how many posts I have. Remember, post count DOES NOT equal Reef IQ!

Having said that, I cannot find anything that supports your hypothesis. Quite the opposite, in fact.

When I Google it, Michael, this is all I get:

http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/base-rock-into-live-rock-argument-108171.html

and something potentially a bit more substantial:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/baserockfaqs.htm

Remember, "years ago" and Google mean a lot of change. ;)

I'll wait on you to get home and maybe you can explain further.

Read your first link! Go to 2nd page where it says amen brotha. That about explains it. If you go buy regular base rock, it's not gonna work! if that's the case we can use any base rocks we would be all using it. Instead we buy products like marco rocks or make our own with oyster shells and such! I never had the chance to make my own but I had unlimited supply of oyster shells. After reading what we wrote I think I didn't explain clearly enough.
