In a saltwater thank only bad things happen quickly...

...and when your not at home:mad2:

My hose connected to my retrun pump blew off and shot water all over the inside of my stand. Everything got soaked. Plugs, wall, you name it. Luckly somebody was home to catch it, but it was too late anyway. The pump prolly emptyed sump in a few seconds. It wasnt too much only about 2-3 gallons would be my guess. But of course it happendswhen im at work.

BLEH!

o well the good with the bad i guess:(

Sorry to hear about that. Ive had a tank bust open for no reason and plus Ive had my skimmer cup overflow twice.

This is why you use plastic hose clamps ;)

Easier said than done, it's practically impossible to find any over about 15mm here.:(

is there a place online to buy those plastic clamps? Ive been using metal ones...and yeah, they are rusting.

$5 dollars for a pack of hose clamps, $50 for shipping.

i feel ya on the shipping overseas. i sold a guy in england a $1200 paintball gun. normal shipping anywhere in the US is $15 max. it cost him over $300 with shipping, taxes, duties and all. its crazy.

Ira, try using a plastic ziptie. They come in just about any size you'd want. Are they available in NZ?

Sandstorm, I had a similar accident. Before I hooked up my sump (tank upstairs, sump downstairs) I had an industrial-sized submersible pump used to drain swimming pools that I would put in my newly mixed saltwater to pump it upstairs with a 30' hose for water changes.

During one water change, the hose popped off the pump, and water sprayed straight up, soaking the rafters and raining down all over my fish room in the basement.

Of course, I was upstairs watching the tank fill when it happened, and it took me a few seconds to realize what that sound was! By the time I got downstairs to unplug the thing, it had not only drained about 10g, but soaked the entire room and its contents, and I had water running down over everything, including myself and the electrical box. Not a good place to be :(

I since semi-permanently affixed the hose to the pump with a ziptie, and it hasn't come off since.

Just reading this and I feel your pain.

My damn Skimmer just over flowed and got about 1 1/2 buckets of water all over the carpet. :(

Nylon Cable Ties/Wraps will do. The plastic hose clamps marinedepot.com sells works the same way. Only the cable ties aren't resuable, you have to cut it open.

I do have cable ties on the rest of my set up all over but i havnt been able to find those plastic hose clamps. I found an extra one n used it but I would love more. O well, even the local amish hardware store has never seem em and they have EVERY thing you can imagine. Lesson learned. meh.
