I'm gonna be starting another tank either a 20 long or 15 gallon which ever you guys think is better I want it to be zoa dominated I have a dual t5 would that be enough or should I get a second one also will a hydro 420 be enough for and what could I do to promote them to multiply faster also what are some cool zoos I should look into I currently have purple sun zoa , ring of fire, fire and ice ,

Whoa.

First off its whatever size tank YOU want. Forget what we think lol

2nd take it slow. No rush with zoas. You want "fast results and growth"

Just keep consistent water parameters.

Don't get caught up in the "names" just take it slow and worry about how to keep the coral alive

Good luck :smokin:

I know it takes time for them to grow My definition of fast is a few months I just want to know how can I set up te tank to be perfect for zoas to grow and multiply

The lighting should be good for a shallow tank like a 20L.
Cool zoas are all in the eyes of the beholder. Pick out the ones that you like.

Agree with everything above. Get the tank that you like better. I was growing zoas and palys well under 2 compact flourescent bulbs in a 15 so you should be OK with your T5s. As far as which zoas, like they said, the ones you like are the ones you should get. Having said that, my favorites in my tank are my Rastas, Tequila Sunrise and Sunny D's. I would also say you may want a bit more flow than one 420 Hydor, especially if you go for a 20l. Maybe add a second one on the other side of the tank?

Whatever you decide, good luck and keep us updated!

If you decide to keep zoas, I'd suggest you gather up some meds for zoas in case they get sick, like Furan2, Lugols, H202, a dip formula (like ReVive), and a QT tank.

If you don't QT, at least dip the zoas.

I agree get a tank you like! A 15g and a 20L are not a whole lot different i have a acrylic 20L well almost 20L that i am in the process of making a Zoa tank. I am having the same issue deciding on lighting i think i am going with a t5 and pc combo. I like MH but not the heat they porduce. I also went with black sand as i felt it would help make my colors "pop" alot better. For flow is this tank going to have a sump? if so you might be able to get away with what you have and a decent return pump could add flow to the tank as well. And i will also agree with previous posts get zoas YOU like not all these crazy designer named ones. i have alot of "common" zoas that i just love the colors. Good luck and enjoy your up coming build

All good advice so far, I can just add when buying frags try not to get 1 or 2 polyp frags, multiple polyp (5+) seem to have a better survival rate. Any zoas or palys that have melted in my tank were all single polyps... And expensive lol

A tiny bit off topic, but why wouldn't a hydor 420 be enough for a zoa/softies tank? I thought the rule of thumb was to turn the water over 10 times per hour ... 420/20 = 21

Shouldn't that be enough? I ask because I was thinking about using a hydor 420 in my 29gallon frag tank that I'm in the process of setting up ...

Thanks! (and sorry OP!)

I've heard that rule in reference to your return pump, not really powerheads. I think just one 420gph powerhead would leave too many dead spots in the tank. I would rather 2 smaller ones on opposite sides of the tank then one bigger one.
