I'm jinxed (in trying to get ahold of an Idol)

I've been trying to get a Moorish Idol as the last fish for my tank. It is a 300DD with a Naso literatus, two spot bristletooth tang, magnificent rabbit, Volitans lion, Radiata lion and a Zebra moray. I realize that the Naso may outgrow the tank in time, and I will deal with that if I have to.

The tank has been running for little more than a year. I have a fair amount of sponge growing in the tank, and I have seeded some to the sump as well. A Moorish Idol seems like a good fit, given the non-aggressive fish in the tank now and the growth of food that the Idol might like already in the tank, with more growing in an isolated tank. Getting said Idol is the issue.

I have tried to get one off DD the last two times they have had them. I have sat on the site, waiting for the update, put the fish in my basket then checked out, only to have had someone be faster than me on the checkout both times. My LFS owner tried to get one from a supplier, but at the last minute the fish he was trying to get was bought by DD.

We're trying one last option (Blue Zoo claims to have them in stock), and if that doesn't pan out, I will consider it a sign from the Fates and move on to getting a different fish (probably a tasseled filefish).

*sigh*

It is obvious you really want one of these beauties but maybe the Banner Fish is a better option and they may be easier to get. MI are known for being very difficult to keep in a tank. Just a thought.

My LFS has one in stock right now, I can check to see if he would ship it. He has had it for at least 2 weeks and looks pretty solid. PM me if you want.

I find it rather funny when someone suggests a bannerfish instead of a Moorish Idol. Thats like saying you should pick up a poodle instead of a German Shepherd.

Anyways I got my MI from DD and it is doing wonderful (sorry dont mean to rub salt in the wound). There are some tricks to almost guarantee you are the fist to buy, if your interested then PM me and I will give you some tips. However, I would recommend at least signing up to be notified when they get more in stock from the LA side of things. Granted this will not be quarantined and trained on prepared foods but the specimen will still be healthy, you will just have to do a little more leg work yourself.

I'm pretty sure you can save all your billing and shipping info to make purchasing faster. Are you waiting on the site and refreshing repeatedly? The site updates approx. 5-10 minutes before the email gets sent out.

GL and hopefully you get the next one.

Idols are very common, fairly inexpensive and easy fish to catch. But because of the guarantees offered by many online dealers now (BZ restricts theirs) and the cost of shipping these rather large fish---they are in short supply. My two come from LA, like most of my fish; BZ has them in stock now. Call mark at BZ, its faster than the online process and he's great at making sure you get a good fish

The first time I didn't have express payment set up, I did the second time. What slowed me down was to pause to see how large the fish was, and then digging out the CC to make sure of the security code. I think if I just hit purchase without looking at the fish and have the security code memorized and ready to go, I might make it.

I'll chat with my LFS owner, who is very accommodating. He is willing to quarantine the fish for me. I don't have a QT set up, everything in my tank has been QT'ed by him, with the exception of the radiata lion that I got from DD. He's willing to do this in part because he is pulling his hair out just trying to get the fish in the first place.
