I'm Moving........

Well I'm not moving far but I am moving. From Edwardsville to Columbia, IL. Closer to work in Ballwin for me and closer for her being a teacher in Columbia.

What I am hoping for.

In terms of the move I want to install my ro/di and a tank the night of the closing. I will let this tank go for about two weeks while we move and do some minor remodeling to the house. I will then transfer all of my current tank inhabitants to this holding tank while I move all equipment and tanks, lights, etc etc. Then I will ste up my current tanks and transfer back over.

First is this plan sound?


Second I would need to borrow a stock tank from someone for this plan to work. It would need to be +75gal. I would need it for a couple of months and would be happy to repay with something to be determined later. A regular tank would work as well but less chance of me breaking a stock tank in the process. I would mount a couple powerheads in there and a heater or two.

Let me know if anyone can help.

The new house has all the requirments I had in the selection process.

A basement
A floor drain
A area set aside for fish use
A basement entrance that a larger tank can be brought in


I am on my way to a "fish room" and a large setup. I am thinking a 120 in a year or so.

I know this guy who has a 90g RR tank and stand sitting in Im Lon 2s garage who might be willing to let you use it if you're interested and can pick it up.

Its been a few years but I had great success by taking the water with me. I saved up 5 gallon buckets and when I did the final move we packed the rock and sand in the original water as well as most every drop. I put a battery powered water pump in the sump to keep it alive.

I didnt have a spare tank whick will make it easier. We broke mine down, packed everything up then reassembled it the same day. The only loss was a royal gramma that jumped and we didnt see it.

Other advise, start earlier that you think on moving day. We had 4 seasoned fish people and it still took a lot longer than we thought. And most important..... NO BEER UNTIL THE JOB IS DONE!

saving water and sand isnt really a concern.

The tank I am moving is basically a stock tank full of coral. No sand. Only a bunch of LR under the eggcrate. I appreciate all of the help.

I would love to take you up on that offer Capo unless omeone offers a stock tank, simply because breaking glass happens mor ethan breaking industrial stregth plastics.

Trottie if your hanging out in South County/ West County I feel safer in Columbia already.

I have a 100 gallon stock tank you can borrow. You will have to clean it up a little, nothing major. It has been sitting in by basement for a few years, since my tank crash. I am now running a nano so I wont need it for a while longer.

you might want to let him know where you live. He has this problem with peaking in people's windows when he sees the blue glow coming from inside. If he doesn't know who lives there. Either that or get your paint ball gun ready at the door.

Moving in town, I don't remember the address but I know how to get there.

Closing is at the end of Feb. So it'll be a while.

I've used the 55 gallon plastic drums before and they worked good you just have to make sure you get the ones that had soda syripe in them not anything harm full to the water and cut the top off with a jig saw.Hoods has them for $10 each.

Just bought land in Columbia behind the YMCA and plan on building as soon as we can sell this place. Depending on work schedule I could probably help. PM when it gets close.

Anyone have a 50 gallon stock tank I could have, would trade you for my stock tank after the move is over. I am pretty sure mines a 70.
