Having an issue with red cyano on the sandbed and green film build up on the glass. I just picked up a Hanna Po4 tester and will be performing a test when I get home. I have ordered new replacement filters for the RODI unit to eliminate that as a source of phosphates, I feed lightly since I only have 5 fishes.

Tank Size - 55ga Elos w/15ga sump
Skimmer - AquaMaxx cone
LR - approx 40lb
Sand - approx 40lb

Live Stock - (1) clown 2-1/2"
(1) yellow tang 3"
(1) starry blenny 2"
(1) bi color blenny 2-1/2"
(1) hippo tang. 3"

No coral or CUC at the moment

Nitrate/phosphate results?
Age of tank?
Water change schedule/quantity?

In general cyano is fairly common in many tanks..new or old..

A simple application of red slime remover (follow directions) works great to rid a tank of it..

phosban and some chaeto for the sump that will help lower the phosphates that are feeding it. that and removing what you can manually while doing water changes it will be gone in short order.

How old is the tank? If it's less than 2 years I'd say, just give it time for the bacterial levels to even out and for the microbial life to balance.

Well if you consider green film on the glass a problem, then you're in for a bad ride. You'll be scraping it off the glass as long as you have a tank. Cyano can come and go. Getting some increased flow in the tank will help keeping from building up on the sand I've found. What do you use for powerheads?

Good advice so far.

I have to be that guy...Now is a good time to trade in the tangs for wrasses, dwarf angel, basslets, gobies, etc.

I had them when my tank is around 2 months old. Then they were replaced by hair algae.
