I'm out......

Hey everyone, I am very sad to say that I will be leaving the hobbie for a while due to a serious setback......

I can home from work today to find my tank wiped out...... everything, every coral, fish, inverts dead..... My tank was 116'F...... the smell of death hit me as I walked into the door.

Something went wrong with my sump downstairs in the basement and I lost probly 30 gal of water onto the floor....... from there, I can only guess my temp controller saw a drop in temp and turned my heaters on...... temp probe on one end of sump and heaters on the other........

Needless to say, 9 years worth of work was wiped out in no time.......

I hope to be back at some point but, this is just way to much for me to handle right now...... I feel like I am going to puke.....

I hope to be back soon......

Chris

Man I am sorry to hear that. All that hard work and the clean up too! Keep your head up. Maybe it was meant to be.......keep your eyes open.

Chris,

VERY VERY sorry to hear this :(

-Keith

PS: I'm in a sad/bad mood too, someone hit my car while it was PARKED overnight in front of my apartment :mad2: Took off my mirror, scuffed up my door, caved in my fender and scuffed my front bumper... Nice start to the holidays :(

Chris,

Really sorry to hear that - these are the types of stories that make me afraid to leave for a weekend. If you need any help with the cleanup, let me know.

Update...

Update...

Our good friend is having a horrible day. Linda is up there helping him go through the tank and sadly the only survivors as I hear are a Hermit crab and a snail.
Dear Chris,
Needless to say there Chris you have many good friend here and we will be there for you to get back on track. You have been there for Linda & I several times and you can count on us for anything buddy.
Please hang in there.

WOW I can only imagine. Sorry to hear :( That is beyond "blows"

I often fear the same end. I stopped using my titanium heater and went back to Visi-therm stealths. That way i would have the extra T-stat in case for some reason my controller ever failed. Even this may not be enough  I hope to never fine out.

When you decide your ready to come back let me know. I have several large mature pieces. I would be happy to donate an extra large frag.

Kris

I would also be happy to donate some frags, I got mostly softies and zoo's and a tad of the sps in the nano but your welecome to whatever I can frag for ya :)

Sorry to hear this Chris. I had a tank leak 2 years ago, and lost everything in the process, I know your pain. I hope you can recover and get back into the hobby soon.

Steve

Thank you to everybody for your support. I really appreciate it. Thank you for the offers of frags...who knows, maybe I'll take you up on them soon.

Right now I'm going to crack open another beer and stare at my empty tank.:(

Very sorry to hear things like this...

I think this does call for a whole club effort. Lets try to make this happen for Chris.

yes but to be clear you say on the other end..... dot dot dot( dont say on the other end of sump or display). just to be clear it was in the sump too? just asking as when sump loses water, return side should stop pumping up to main tank? right? so why did the tank get hot?

That's probably what I would do too, sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully some people will be able to help you out.

Since moving to Guam I've basically been out of the hobby too. Other than base housing here being small and I have now clue where I'd put even a small tank, I've just not been in the mood to set one up. I was when we 1st arrived but now I just have no desire. It's all probably due to the space issue. I've also hardly found any trustworthy LFS here although before arriving I heard there were lots and all the beaches are wildlife preserves. I was considering a nano, we'll see. I do miss watching my fish tho.

Damn d00d, I feel for ya :( I've had a tank go nuke on me also in the past.

Try to not drownd your saddness in the bottle though, Drinking won't help solve it, but for teh timebeing, it does make the "dead-feeling" kinda numb for your system equal how your mind feels.........

If I can help out, lemme know.

I have some anthelia I can give you, and perhaps a shoulder to cry on.

We are a community here, and we all care :)

Chris,
So sorry to hear about your tank. That is beyond horrible. I agree with others saying you should have a "restocking" party when your ready. I'll do whatever I can to help.
Also, like reefD I was wondering how'd the heater make your tank that hot if it was in the sump, return shoulda stopped pumping to display once water dumped out right? Either way that really sucks and I'll do whatever I can to help ya out in the situation. I dont have much for frags to offer, mine are still babies. I could figure something out to go for the cause though. Hope for a quick recovery on your end.
Dan
