Im so excited, I just had to share!

Those of you who know my wife and me, will never believe this, I just got home with a 125 gallon tank!

I was so excited yesterday that the 55 I had sitting in my basement was finally get drilled so I could reclaim the room the ugly overflow box took up and put in my closed loop. I got a horrible phone call at lunch today from one of the girls at Something fishy. Apparently the tank was a perfecto, and they use tempered glass all around. Well needless to say when Todd started drilling the tank didnt make it. I felt like a kid who just found out his dog died.

A friend at work had been trying to talk me into buying his 125 for months. When I told my wife what happened, her response was, "Im so sorry. What are you gonna do now." Jokingly I said, "Will you agree to let me take Matt's tank to make me feel better?" When she said sure, I thought she was just being her sarcastic self. Needless to say, after I picked my jaw up off the floor and caught my breathe, I went over to his house and got the thing before she changed her mind!

Talk about an odd twist of fate! Breaking an old 55 made my dreams come true!

So now the fun really begins, getting the stuff I need to do this right. Believe it or not, I'm gonna give Todd a shot at another tank. At least this time I know its a 125 aga and he says the back isnt tempered. He claims my tank was the first he broke. Don't know if I believe him, but Ill give him the benefit of the doubt.

I am going to combine my current display tank with the grow out tank in the basement to make my new system. As far as pumps, I have a mag 7 and a mag 9.5. The 7 will end up on the loop. The 9.5 is supposed to put out 600gph at 8 foot and 660 at 7. I should fall in that ballpark. That will give me a turnover of just under 5 on the sump and a little over 5 with the loop. With a few powerheads on wavemakers will that be enough turnover for now?

The next challenge is lighting! currently I have four 48 inch t-s vhos over the tank and a 175 mh over the frag tank. I know this is going to sound absolutely bizarre, but TEMPORARILY, Im thinking about putting the t-5s to one side and the mh over the last 2 feet.

I am going to need to build or aquire a canopy. It would be spectacular if somebody happened to have one laying around for a decent price since Im not exactly a carpenter.

i think the light will work joe.just keep the sps under the halide.two maxi jet stream mods will give enough flow for now.you are moving up to a 6 foot tank so it will be cool.glad to hear your misfortune turned out to be a good thing.good luck

I guess its great !! Now you have to fill a bigger tank and spend more ;-)

Good timing with the swap just around the corner.

sanjay.

Good to hear. And to think that 55 was what originally got my attention to start :)

Ahhh the odd twists life takes. A pile of itty-bitty pices of glass opens the door. Best of luck with the 125.

Fwiw, that's exactly the lighting settup I use over both of my 125 displays. Not sure what t5's your using, but as long as they have individual parabolics they can crank out a lot of par, and give you great coverage. As suggested, arrange the rocks so that you'll be able to keep sps up high. T5's will do fine for sps too, but different corals will color up differently under them. So you'll have to see how things react.
