i was given my tracking number on thurday july 31 evening for my 50lb live rock and it has taken those profanity removed 5 days to ship it to the same state(im in CA), according to their Rescheduled Delivery i will get the package on wednesday. im afraid that there would be alot of die off. would the live rock still be liverock after 5 to 6 days in transit. im so mad right now, i will never again use those [profanity] for shipping if i have to count on them to be on time.

I honestly dont know about the live rock... but i know i had a fish order and the fish spent about 8 hours on a ups truck on one of the hottest days this summer and after i called them about it it was less than 15 min later and ups is at my door... 3 fish and 4 snails (1 fish was DOA)... now iam having a fed x issue.. i have a dry goods order out there since 28 july... according to the tracking # after 12 hours on the truck for local delivery they said coustomer not avaliable for delivery.. well i dont know why they said that iam retired and disabled and home all the time and iam still looking for any notice of attempted delivery and i still have not located one..i

Just because you got a tracking number doesn't mean it was shipped, only that it was entered into UPS' system. I got a tracking number two weeks ago for a package that shipped yesterday. Check and see when it was picked up from the place you bought the rocks.

poor fish.

keeping what you told us here as a reminder I will make sure I have anything fedex with guaranteed overnight delivery.

Priority overnight works great with no problems. Ground can be a bit more unreliable. I have only had one shipment out of MANY ever go awry and that was my fault for not checking the weather.

Not fish related, but I had a package of car parts coming from the East Coast to the West Coast... it was delayed due to a train derailment. It took 4 weeks in the end.

Ground delivery = unknown arrival as far as I'm concerned.

With live rock, you should be fine. It's gonna be nice and stinky... but hey, live rock is nice and stinky fresh out of the water.

I'd probably let it sit in a tub of saltwater for a few hours (or a day or two) so any die-off has time to slough off before putting it in the tank.

I always have live items shipped via Fed Ex Priority Overnight. I have them sent to the local Fed Ex office address and held for pickup at 8 am when they open.

If adding to an established setup I'd let it cure for a week or so. IMO die off can happen in just 1 or 2 days for fully cured LR unless it comes shipped in water. (which it won't)

You have GOT to be kidding me!!! You really do need to check when the package left the facility because I'm all but sure that the only got the shipping label.

Secondly, are you even close to aware how many FedEx, DHL, and USPS Priority mail UPS ACTUALLY ships for them? It really burns my buns when people complain about shipping, but dont have a clue what they're talking about. Oh and what do you mean 'resheduled'? Sounds like you were supposed to sign and they missed you....

I truly hope everything comes in alive and wonderful for you, but sometimes life happens. Hopefully you bought from a reputable place that will give you a guarantee, worst case insurance to refund your money from UPS themselves. If you shipped overnight insurance is included.

I feel the same way about fed Ex. In fact I wont even use fed ex anymore becouse of all the problems i have had with them. Honestly I prefer DHL over all others becouse of there awsome customer service and if they have the slightest concern over a package they will call you.

"worst case insurance to refund your money from UPS themselves.".....

Not on Live Goods. They will only give you your cost of shipping......

Hope everything works out for you but it might be best to read back your post before you hit submit next time.

Now to be clear i have never had a problem with fed ex overnight on fish orders...and the one fish order from ups i had it was the 1st time i ordered from that comany on did it iver the phone and i apparently missed the shipping options but the fish company credited my account with no problem... the issue iam having right now is with my salt delievery(i have plenty on hand so its no big hurry) it just irks me they said they tried to deliver at 530pm yesterday..there was never a knock on the door, i also have 3 dogs who go ape when some one knocks on the door and also at that time frame i was at the computer 3 feet from the door and also iam retired and disabled so iam home all the time..also my dry goods are always sent with out requiring a signature due to my disability..and there is also no notice on any of my doors about any attempted delievery...but its ground whenever it gets here shipment..its just irks me when they say they did somethinfg they did not do

1 - Many companies do not have a daily UPS or FedEx pick up. Remember, everyone is not Wal-Mart with 390 loading docks, 9bazillion employees and 400 outbound shipments per day. You do need to ascertain when the shipment actually left the place you purchased your LR from. Was your package actually in UPS's hands for 5 days or was it not shipped from Skippy's Live Rock Depot for 5 days?

2 - Rescheduled Delivery = rain delay, snow delay, train derailment, fires in Southern CA, incorrect address, lack of signature or any number of things. Incorrect address or lack of signature are the most common reasons for a Resch. Delivery.

If your retailer screwed up the address and caused this delay, you are probably entitled to a freight reimbursement.

What's wrong with just putting a little faith and expectations into a company that charges you for a service, then fails to deliver on those expectations? Whether you run a business off of Ebay or this is your first shipped item in 10 years is irrelevent... you're still allowed to be upset when they screw up.

And no matter where I go on forums that involve an unsatisfied shipping transaction, it always turns into a "FedEx is better", "NO... UPS is!," "You're both wrong, DHL all the way!" rant thread. With say 10 million shipments a day, 0.1% failure rate is still 10,000 upset/irate customers each day. Doesn't take long for any shipping company to get a bad reputation pretty damn quick. Those figures are made up, but you get the idea.

That being said, it sucks none-the-less. Joyce's suggestion may take some convenience out of the transaction, but adds a lot of security, and I too recommend that if possible. Less things to go wrong in the transaction, guaranteed pickup time (ie, 8AM... you decide), and a somewhat climate controlled environment (warehouse instead of a 100*F truck).

Just my $0.05. (shrug)

well my shipment arrived today..my mix up was the driver(and he admitted it to me).. my neighborhood is OLD houses and looks kinda like a somewhat untrustable neighborhood and since he did not see a car in the driveway(check the 2 car garage ) he did not leave the bucket of salt because he was not comfortable leaving it(his reason for not delievering it yesterday)... back ground info i get at least 2 shipments a month to my house thru fedx sometimes more if i order fish..but i average 4 fedx shipments amonth for fish/dry goods/non fish related iotems and always just drop at door and go..so why diffrent this time i dont know..but i got it in one piece and before i opened my last bucket of salt so iam happy
