Plan- To keep Softies and LPS

No modifications that Require cutting, I am in an apartment not an option.
The scrapping of the back off the Oceanic to allow for a refugium is fine
I want 0 Micro bubbles hate them hate them hate them

So please let me know which is the king of the nano! :D

Cadlights 164.99+Shipping
Aquamedic 139.99+Tax
Oceanic 140.00 + Tax

i lke the enclosed tops on the oceanic and aqua medic, keeps evaporation real low. if it were me i would go oceanic for the quality.

I have been piling through the specs on the 6g JBJ nano and the 8g Oceanic biocube

I have not seen the other brands as this is oging to be an office tank and the max size can be that of the Oceanic 8g ( the 6g JBJ has the same exact footprint)

Also it is one of the few that have a dual lighting system WITH Moonlights ( most charge extra for the moon light option listed under " Deluxe" )

It has dual filter intakes ( low and high ) and it is actually 8.9 gallons.

BUT now i am going to have to check out the AM 9g lol

Since I dont want hands or fingers or gawd knows what else in the tank the closed top was a must and also cuts down sound.

Check eBay, I just bought a 8 gallon BioCube for $99 + $19 shipping. The guy I bought is from has run the auction many times, he usually has 8-10 to sell at a time.
It's being delivered tomorrow, I can't wait!!!

Not bad that will pay for the sand in savings. Thanks for the tip

I was just over at nanoreef and after reading a few threads of people owning the AQ 9 there are soooooo many people getting tanks that leak right off the bat ! On top of that they are over heating left and right

Filled it today.
It leaks.
---sigh---
I believe another fella had his NW9 leak also. I wonder how long it was till he received his replacement.

I've left the water in the tank to observe heat issues. Since Saturday the water level has dropped/leaked an 1/8th to 1/4 inch. I moved the tank from my 3yr old's room and is now sitting in the kitchen on the tile counter with a towel underneath to absorb the leak.

Yesterday I recorded the temps with the lights on 10hrs from 9:30am to 7:30pm. The 5w fuge light and LEDs were on the night before.
8:00am - 77.8 deg
10:00am - 78.7
12:30pm - 81.7
2:00pm - 82.4
3:17pm - 83.9
5:36pm - 84.5

PROS
Good Tank design, innovative filtration, built in Fuge, protein skimmer.
CONS
underdesigned lighting & cooling system, timer woes

Overall I give the Nanowave a B+ with plenty of value for the beginner to intermediate aquarist. I've been on the phone with Aqua Medic to feed them my input. I can't wait to hear yours.

Not Bashing the product , just in the same boat wanting to buy my first nano and sharing the information that I found

I'm a Biocube8 owner, and I love the tank as it has great build quality. Mine is heavily modded, but I always need to tinker.

For mods I was just going to replace the media with in Chamber 1 with purigen seagel and filter flow Chamber 2 with rubble rock and cheato with refugium light through the back glass after scraping off vinyl. And finally a mini-jet 606 with a hydor

Just get a JBJ 12g Deluxe nano and put the light/chiller/moonlight package on it from nanocustoms.com. It's called the JBJ 12DX 4.24 and if you get the refugium light added, it keeps everthing inside the tank with no drilling or external sumps needed. I grow acro and monti in mine with just 4 PC lights. Completely covered so evap is slower than an open-top with sattelite MH. Just make sure you take out the sponges in the first filter chamber. they suck. If you're not allowed anything that big, they make cool custom light packages for the 6G DX too. Both decent tanks. Some ppl knock 'em but I haven't had any probs with mine since I got it 18 months ago.

NanoWave9

NanoWave9

Just thought I would add my input on the NanoWave 9. I bought one of these just before Xmas, so it has been up and running for just over 3 months now. While parts of the tank are quite innovative, overall the tank design is very poor. I did not have any issues with the tank leaking, but the flow rate is absolutely horrible, the compartments in the back are so narrow that your choice of pumps is limited, maybe 2" in width at most. The lighting is very poor, coming with only 6000k, although I did manage to find some 11000k bulbs at my LFS. The tank heats at least 6 degrees through an 8 hour photo period. This is with the tank being in a room with ambient temp of around 62. I hate to think of what will happen during the summer when the temps rise. I managed to get this down to 2 deg with leaving the back compartment open and putting a fan on it. Which of course negates the fuge entirely. The fuge sounds good, however there is too much flow for it to be useful for anything other than macro algae. I will say this about the skimmer however, once it broke in, it works surprisingly well.

To be honest the only thing owning this tank has done for me, is make sure I will never buy another "all in one" tank like this. I would definitely recommend spending a little more time and putting together a full system with a sump or whatever your preferred design is. Especially if you plan on SPS. I think in the long run it will save you a lot of aggravation.

wow thanks Thalast put that one back in thw dugout for sure and pretty much what i have seen reguarding this tank on other sites as well.

I bought the 9 gallon cadlights tank about 2.5 months ago and have been very happy with it. I did switch out the lighting for a 70watt sunpod fixture and have added a remora nano to the back. I can't comment on the other nanos because I haven't tried them. Just thought I'd add my experience with the cadlights tank.
