My dang grouper is rubbing himself all over the rock and bottom of the tank. while I dont see any spots he is going crazy. I had a power brown tank that got ich and died(he stopped eating). The grouper on the other hand still eats like a horse. This is my 180 gallon mostly fish only. I have a couple turbo snails and a little GSP and some colt that I can take out and move. My question is how to treat it? Dose it with medicine or leave it alone? All my water paramaters check out good except its time for a water change and my nitrates are just barely starting to show.

You need to isolate your fish in a qt and leave your display empty for a while to eradicate the ick.

Usually, if you haven't seen any spots; you can't be sure its ich. There are many parasites that cause fish to scratch; although ich is the most common . HOWEVER; because a tang with ich died in thus tank, you can be as sure as possible that this is ich. Of course you have to move your fish to a QT; that's why every authority, book, magazine, etc., on our hobby insists that new fish be quarantined. If you use a QT for all new fish after this episode; you'll never go through this again.
