Im trying to figure this LPS stuff out!

Juts when I thought I had this ahole reefing thing figured out I started seeing things like "Aussie Acans", "Micromusa", "Chalace, echino........What gives? you go into a lfs and they are so confused in there you dont know if your buying a coral or a car!

Anyways please answer a couple of questions for me
1. Are there aussie Acans and regular acans? Whats the difference? Or are all acans aussie?

2. Is chailace the major heading for Enchino, oxy pora, mecidum?

3. What is this?

I'm not at all an expert, but I can answer a few questions for you

1. there are different types of acans. the ones I've heard mentioned are aussie, indo, and non-indo. I think the designation depends on their collection site Not exactly sure where non-indo acans are collected

2 & 3 I don't know

But I love the colors on your coral, kind of a coat of many colors, good luck with it!

I'm not an expert, but i'd say Echinata

#3 that is an A. echinata, id call it an "orange crush".
Australia has just opened up this year exporting corals that come from there local reef's,so any coral from Australia would be an "Australian coral" and Indo coral's would be from Indonesia. Non Indo would mean corals not coming from Indonesia, it also means that coral is either from Japan and Australia , and before this year corals coming from either of those localities were illegal to collect , export out of there country they were collected from,and illegally imported into the USA , oh and illegal to possess . and it also means that the coral from these localities usually are quite expensive.

echinophyllia, oxypora,mycidium,and echinomprpha are all commonly called chalice corals....at least from what i see .
