I love this tank! I was just skimming through build threads and found this. Your tank has a sense of cleanliness and open space that is not commonly found in the average reef aquarium. Keep up the good work!

The tube is a thin wall polycarb. Its much cheaper than acrylic. I would check your local plastic shop, they should have something similar.
Thanks nepenthes99, i appreciate the comment. A few days ago I actually took some time to clean up the wires and cables inside the stand...I couldnt stand it so I finally did it. Though I can probably continue to clean it up..Im at least much happier with the way it is now.

The clear polycarbonate tube is a T12 bulb protector, they fit perfectly 1 1/4" fittings and we used Weldon 16 to glue it.

update and a question I have for everyone. Lately I've been getting alot of bacteria growth on my sandbed, what is the method everyone is using to keep their sandbeds clean? I currently have 4 small conchs that burrow around in the sand but they dont seem to do enough. Thinking about grabbing a sleeper goby of sorts to sift through the sand. Any thoughts?

for sleeper gobies: i have experience with diamond and banded sleeper gobies, the latter are better for a small tank like this as they also eat other foods and also nuisance algae more readily. on the other hand, they tend to ascend whith the sand in mouth so some gets moved on rocks, with your steep rocks i see less problems here than with the lps on the sand though. both gobies will bury them to a certain point.
i like my banded "phalaena" sleeper goby very much, keeps the sand sparkling and also eats red cyano, but not the green one. it also stays smaller than other sleeper gobies and is more beautiful in my eyes, not so dull white. i also have a sand sifting starfish in my 50g, but i doubt it could survive in a 30g with little open space.
