In Australia, where to dive???

So Im out here in Melbourne until Feb or so and I definitely want to hit the GBR for a couple dives and snorkeling with my girl. Can any locals give any suggestions on where to go out from or beter yet, which boats?
Also want to do a caged dive with the Great Whites. Again, anyone been with any suggestions? I guess they are both on opposite sides of Australia but Im happy to travel being that I dont know if Ill get this chance again. Its cold now here so Im assuming its better to wait until Oct-Dec?

I did a live aboard on the Atlantic Clipper out of Carins. Amazing dives, people and food.

I was told by the locals that Cairns is the place to go for the most selection in reef dives but is full of tourists. I was hoping there may be some Aussie members onboard RC that could throw some specifics out. It seems that every town ive been in down here offers dive charters and whatnot
