"Allow myself to introduce... myself."
Howdy all!
After perusing the website for almost two weeks trying to find an introduction thread, I decided to boldy make my presence known. So here goes...
Pleased to meet ya!
My name is Tom and my son is Ben. Ben is 13, and I'm not interested in telling you my age.
What I will tell is that I am very pleased to find an aquarists society in the Capital District.
It all started for us Christmas 2005, with 1 gallon tank and some guppies in my son's room. A few trips to the LFS and we knew we needed a bigger tank, so I made one with a bottle from the office water cooler.
Interesting tank, but it still didn't satisfy our urge to go saltwater.
In May, I scored a 75 gallon reef set up from a friend...and the romance began. We spent so much time looking at the tank in the living room, that we cancelled the expanded cable package for the TV.
My son doesn't complain at all about that.
He did complain, however, that it was always MY arm in the tank putting the rocks where I want them.
With just the two of us living here, there is no third party arbitration to work out a compromise, so the only answer was another tank in Ben's room that he can arrange the way he wants.
Hence the 20 gallon reef.
This really is an awesome hobby, it has inspired us both in so many ways, and also brought us closer together, which really offsets the cost involved.
Next summer I am taking Ben snorkeling in Fla. so he can see much of our captive reef in a natural setting.
We look forward to attending meetings and making new friends.
We have a lot to learn and may be able to pass on a few ideas as well.
*whew*
Ok, I think I have said enough for now. Looking forward to meeting almost everybody, not too sure about this ESPI guy, but Linda C. says he is harmless!
Take care,
Tom&Ben
