i bought a sea hare from the lfs not know exactly what type it is maybe you can help. it's 2 1/2 inches he's big and brown. it looks like he has branches coming out of him and he has the occassional blue spot on him. now i have read that they are toxic to fish and i don't have any fish yet, but i want some in the near future. i know they eat algae but they can also eat parboiled lettuce. does it matter what kind of lettuce and how long to boil it.

I would guess you have Bursatella. They can produce purple ink, but it's not toxic to fish. Some species may eat lettuce, but it's not an appropriate diet for them on a regular basis. I know Bursatella will feed on cyanobacteria and some people have reported them to feed on hair algae. It's also possible that they would eat something like Gracilaria.
