I'm a newbie so sorry if these questions are dumb but I currently have a 135g FOWLR with a canister filter setup. I am upgrading to a 240g Glass tank with a hang on Back overflow. How can I set up a sump/fuge for it?

Fuge set-up

Fuge set-up

10 x easier to see than explain. Go to your local TRUSTED fish store (one you are getting tank from?) and have them take a below tank fuge (I'll assume your new 240 will be plumbed for this set up as opposed to needing an overflow box) and have them go over its entire set-up and function and how to plumb. You can check out the price they are charging against prices on Marine Depot and Smith and Foster to be sure you are not getting ripped off (remember to include S and H and convenience when comparing prices). Many stores will even have someone come to your house to help you set it up if you are still unsure (be sure to tip the fellow who comes to help and thank the manager).

Sean, if getting a new 240g, try to get one set up as reef-ready so you can avoid the overflow box. PITA vs reef-ready.

i never had problem with a HOB overflow, but that was on my 20 gallon. iit gave me less problems than leaky bulkheads, and a day worth of pvc work :D.

if u have a hob overflow i would get two of them, t'd together. get some flex pipe, hook one end up to the overflow box, and one to the t, do the same with the other one, on the single end of a t, hook flex up to that, and then the fuge. put a pump in the fuge, and run a clear poly tube up the back of the tank, with a up and over tube from the canister filter and viola.

if u go reef ready, drill at the top of the tank for an external overflow. much easier than internal overflow on the bottom of the tank imo
