I have been looking for a mantis shrimp and have the oportunity to purchase one but would like to know a little more about it. It was identified as "G. affinis. smasher.". I was wondering if anybody knew something about it such as how big it will get and things like that. If there is a good reference guide someone could point me towards that would be apreciated.

Gonodactylellus affinis is an extremely common stomatopod found living throughout much of the Indo-Pacific. It is a true dwarf species rarely getting larger than 30 mm total length and is found in cavities in coral rubble at depths for 5 to more than 50 m. In fact, in most places that I have worked from French Polynesia to Australia and Indonesia, it is the most common stomatopod below 10 m. They are very color polymorphic often assuming the color of the habitat they are living in and their is some sexual dimorphism with the males developing inflated carinae of the telson at about 22-24 mm. I can usually identify this species by a thin light colored line that extends between the uropods across the top of the telson.
