So these corals are getting something under reeflux that a general 10 isn't providing? Has anyone seen a coral color up going from xm10k to reeflux?
I don't think you get an actual color shift in the coral (although there may be some small amount over time. You see the results as soon as you put a fresh set of lights in.
PUGroyale's comments on all the other factors affecting coral color can't be disregarded. Crappy looking corals from bad conditions are bound to look "crappy" under the RF 10k's. It's a cool bulb ... not a miracle worker.

As far as the OT ****ing contest is concerned, I actually think it brings up some good points. I was kinda thinking about the whole Japanese tank comparison myself. Don't get me wrong, I also think those are extremely healthy excellent tanks that anyone would/should be proud of, but I do think the various color'd spotlights are to some extent ... cheating (JMO).
I came to the conclusion that using the RF10k is not in the same category. We're just talking about one color (blue) and many reefers are already working for the same result by supplementing with actinics or using 10 and 10+ kelvin halides. This bulb just does a better job of it IMO (for at least a couple months anyway
). I think the only reefers who could "take the high road" on this one would be those who in the 6.5k only club.
With all bulbs, there are some obvious downsides that come with the good. For instance, I find it very difficult to get purples to show up very well under these (unless it's a deep dark purple) and reds don't seem to show up as well. Probably because of the pink hue that some people see throughout the tank (water rocks, etc)
