Inside the SERIPC9 (making it a swith)

Ok guys, I posted a message about connecting a smoke alarm to my ACII but first I need to make an input for the digital switch to my ACII. Playfair gave me a great idea to use my SERIPC9 as the point of entry for the switch. I just need to figure out which contacts to solder onto. Here are two picture I took of my SERIPC9. I will post some more once I get the wires attached.

I'm not sure why you'd need to use that. I am guessing that a security system smoke alarm has an isolated relay contact for an output. All you would need to do is wire it to the correct input pins on the serial connector as outlined in the manual. Maybe I just don't follow what you're trying to do.

This is not going to work (with our serial cable anyway). We don't connect both of the switch in and switch out wires to the DB9 connector. I recommend opening the DB9 connector of our serial cable and connecting the switch wires there.

Curt- so the Minidin 8 cable does not have any wires connected to pins 1 or 4 of the Aquacontroller?

No need to reply to the last post. I opened up my serial cable and found two free wires in the DB9 housing (red and black wires) that are not soldered to the connector. I routed them outside of the connector.

How can you view the current state of the switch (open or closed) either on the ACII or in aquanotes?

The red and black wires are not the correct wires for the switch. The brown wire which connects to DB9 pin 8 is external switch out - connect one switch wire here. The red wire (depends on the particular cable) is usually the external switch in pin of the controller, and should connect to the other wire of your float switch.
