Installed one of those Sure Grip 100's today

To hold one of my Seio 1500's. Had tried to see if a large mag float would hold the weight, but it kept sliding down on me. This Sure Grip 100 thing is rock solid and smaller than the mag float. Easy to set up as they give you 4 different clip things that hold different pumps. One thing that was really cool for me on this is that no matter how I tried to aim my Seio hanging on the back of the tank, I had to keep it tuned way back because opening it up just a little bit was reflecting off the front tank wall and drifting my shallow sandbed. I have this magnet mounted on the side now and have the pump wide open and no problems at all, so now I can get the full flow from it. One thing different from using a mag float is that with a mag float you can move and turn a pump as you please to aim it. With these, after I installed I tried to move it a little, but it has these little rubber feet glued to the bottom and all I accomplished was ripping two of those off while trying to move it. Had to take everything back out while I got the feet stuck back on the outside half of the magnet. A bit expensive (that's why I only got one for now) but effective at what it's supposed to be used for.

You should write a little report for the next edition of The Wave and send it to Becky! Sounds like it was a good investment.

Did I read right that you can't use it with a Tunze? Or that you have to buy an extra part or something?

OK, I saw the part about "...you will need to use two Tunze adaptors (not included)..." and thougt you had to buy more pieces.

Hmmm...I don't know. On the side of the box it just shows one of the little slide on brackets for each type of pump that it holds. I didn't go through and read in the little paper that came with it about the tunzes, but I can take a look later. I'm thinking that it means that you have to use some of the mounting hardware that already comes with the pump. With my Seios you have to use a couple of the mounting pieces to slide into the clip that holds it to the magnet.

I think that's what it is - I looked at the picture and I think those are pieces that came with the Tunze.

yeah, I wouldn't know since I haven't made the decision yet to sell off one of my kidneys so that I can get some Tunze pumps.

And I suppose you could even slap some epoxy and superglue on there and do it up like a mag float/pump mod if you didn't have the parts.

You know, geppert, the route of using epoxy might be a use you could consider. I don't know how heavy 2600's are, but my 1500's are pretty heavy and this thing is holding it rock solid. Maybe it's just a matter of not having a clip size that would fit the Sure Grip and the 2600 that is the problem and not its ability to hold the weight. So perhaps gluing/epoxying the pump to the magnet would still work?? The Sure Grips are rated to hold my 1500's up to 3/4" of glass, so they've got some holding power.

sounds awesome, but i have a 2600 as well. i'm intested to know if it will hold. who's gunna try it? :)

I don't have any full tank since I put this Sure Grip thing in. Last full tank pics I had were these from I guess a few weeks ago.

I've added a bunch of SPS frags recently and am still trying to get them all placed where I think I want them. Will be awhile before they grow in much though, I would imagine.
