Installing Tunze 9002 in RSM - HELP!!!

I bought this skimmer used and it didn't come with a manual, so I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

1. Where should this be placed in terms of water level (in the back of the tank)? Is the water supposed to come up right up to the blue knob on the top of the skimmer (below the collection cup)?

2. I know the blue knob adjusts the air flow. How do I know if I've got it right? Should the water be coming up to a point inside the collection cup?

I've never been too bright with protein skimmers, and I'm confused as hell on this one. Thanks for your help!

You can view the manual if you click on the nano reefpack option

The instructions are not the most clear, but I have found that mine works best when the water level is 1/2" to 1" below the top of the black rectangle.

I would close the air valve all the way, then open in 1/2 turn and wait. Every hour or so, open the valve a little more until bubbles are visible at the bottom of the collection chamber.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. Does yours also buzz? I bought this baby because I had heard they were supposed to be silent.

A gurgling noise would be caused by water in the air intake, so if it is a coffee maker type noise, it is because it was too deep and water got into the air intake, this will work itself out over time if you raise it up.

A buzzing or grinding noise would be the impeller, most likely as it was used, something dried up inside the motor and cleaning out the motor would solve it.
