INSTANT OCEAN problem

hi all,
I was wondering if any of you have experienced mixing Instant Ocean salt mix & saw white cloud? I drained the whole mixing container & I found some white powdery stuff that does not disolve in water. wonder if I should give IO an email about this

Sure, that is the pulverized salt during transit. When I make a batch. My water is at 70 degrees, dump the salt in, throw in powerhead and heater (set at 80) and mix for 12-24 hrs before water change. The stuff that doesn't dissolve, sets to the bottom of the container. As I pump out the water I make sure that I don't introduce it to the tank, and I clean out the mixing container of the residue.

It happens to me soemtimes too, and I put all of it in--it clears up within 12 hours or so. Doesn't seem to hurt anything.

I've tried alot of different salts and found TM to be the most consistant. I mix it, warm it and changed all within a few hours with no residue or problems.....been doing it this way for years.....what are the benfits of mixing it or letting it stand for 24hrs or longer before adding?

hmmmm, dont really know the benefits, nor do I know the bad points of just adding newly mixed SSW (synthetic salt water). maybe someone can shed light.
is it a bad thing to switch salt brands at this point?

I use IO, and sometimes have white residue in my RO/DI/mixing container...never caused me a problem though.

"Pulverized salt" doesn't make sense to me - salt, pulverized or not, should dissolve into the water, shouldn't it?

Dexter stated that is what he saw (cloudy) when he added salt to the water. When you dump the salt which is slightly grainy, it drops to the bottom. The pulverized dust is what clouds the water a bit and also is suspended in the water.

oh, ok, I thought we were talking about a white residue that won't dissolve that remains in the container where you mixed the water.
