Insteon vs. X-10 Alternative

Does anyone have any thoughts on using these new Insteon modules from SmartHome.com instead of the X-10 modules? From what I've read, the Insteon protocol claims to have better, more reliable signals. I've always had intermittent problems with X-10 modules acting strangely one day, then acting fine on another--regardless of what I do to isolate the interference (not to mention buying more Filterlincs all the time).

It would be nice if Insteon is more ideal protocol and if it can be integrated well with the current AquaControllers. Insteon is apparently backwards compatible with X-10 devices.

Comments?

I've looked at these as well, but since they are more expensive than plain appliance modules, I figured the DC8 and DC4HD modules were a better value with absolutley no interference. By the time you add up all the insteon modules, they get to be more expensive than DC8.

Also, (and I could be wrong about this) I think the insteon works to make the signal more reliable by combining a low bandwidth radio signal with the power line signal. Since you will most likely have the X10 modules close to the computer x10 interface, the added functionaliy of the radio signal may be unnecessary, however, the radio signal may obviate the need for power filters to the extent the powerline signal is lost due to interference. With a $15 powerline filter I have been able to overcome most all interference with just plain vanilla X10 modules.

As a final note, I like the smarthome appliance modules better than X10 because the "local on" feature can be turned off by sending the module a signal. On the X10 modules you have to pry them apart and cut the jumper.

Hope this helps.
