They have prazi and milli oxime in them, has anyone else used them for red bugs as I have got my hands on some?

Thanks

Yup, that's the stuff. Milbemycin oxime is the active ingredient.

One large dog tab contains 23mg of m.o. and is sufficient for dosing like 380 or 390 gallons. I used a razor blade to cut the tab into quarters to dose my 100g.

Typical instructions are to dose 3 times with a week between doses, and to use carbon or do a water change 24 hours after dosing. You'll find different recommendations on whether 3 treatments are necessary, or whether carbon or water changes are necessary, or even if the treatment is necessary. I chose to treat my whole tank and to follow the recommended directions.

QT your shrimp and crabs before treating, as they're unlikely to survive. Again, you'll hear different accounts of shrimp and crab survivability. Corals and clams are unaffected by the medication itself. Corals obviously benefit from removal of wee arthropods that are feasting on them like little coral ticks or fleas.

In the grand scheme of reef pests, redbugs are fairly easy to irradicate.

Thanks, so mix it with tank water (I have heard that is not too easy to do) as the tabs are now chewy not chalky.

Yes, mix it with tank water in a cup vigorously first. Took me almost 5 minutes mixing it to almost have it dissolve in the cup. I just finished my first treatment yesterday and by the end of the 6th hour I couldn't see a single red bug anywhere. I did a 20% water change right after 6 hours and I ran carbon at the 10th hour of the treatment.

I couldn't catch a single one of my shrimp; a blood a cleaner and 3 peppermint and so far all of them are doing fine. I did take out as many crabs as I could before the treatment.

I will be treating again 4-5 days from now and then a third one a week after the second treatment.

for those who have a problem mixing it up very well and/or quickly....a little trick

find a pair of pliers with a smooth inner face....crush it with that into a glass/ceramic bowl...then take a spoon and crush any flecks that didnt get crushed, and then use a little HOT water to mix it up instead of tank water. Makes it much more soluble and this whole process takes a couple of minutes to dose time

I put mine in a shot glass for five minutes. It will desolve after a few minutes. Also, be sure to stop air from going to your skimmer, but leave the skimmer pump on. Skimming may take more of the med out. Start skimming again when you do your water change.

I now have a picture of my tablets, just to finally check my system is 80 gallons total so a quarter of this tablet will be about the correct dose?

Hmmm, my tabs have been round. I see yours expire 6/13, so maybe the new ones are going to be more rectangle. Still use 1/4 of the tab because the medication is mixed evenly throughout the pil. I used 1/4 of a pill on a 50 gallon three times with disired effects. My pods lived until the third dose.

The chewables are different. You want the round ones that contain only Milbemycin oxime. Those crush into powder pretty easily. I wouldn't dose the ones that also contain prazi.

I know this is an old thread but no one seems to be answering the thread I started. Is this true? Are chewables ok? Or do I need the tablet form?

I haven't been able to find any locally. my vet and another vet that my buddy talked to both said the company isnt making it anymore.

I think the company website said something about a temp shutdown to move factories but nothing about a complete end to the med. wish I could find some! lol I don't need much for a 25 gallon tank lol!

I was able to get the soft chewy version but not the hard tablets. I still can not find a definitive answer. I have found 2 threads where people have used the soft chewy ones and had success. I also have heard the hard tablets are not being produced right now.
