Interceptor questions

i just went through this myself and i was told it doesnt matter. The one week recommendation was a precautionary measure to catch all the unborn ones that may have survived the first treatment and so on
 
Plus one for one week. The life cycle of red bugs is unknown so you want to give enough time between treatments to make sure you get the ones that survived as eggs or some other life stage.
 
Red Bugs are known to be live bearers from what I have read, meaning they don't lay any eggs. I did only one treatment and bug free so far.
 
One week is the general rule, but a lot of people, including myself, have eradicated them with just a single dose.
 
IMO, it would be prudent to monitor for recurrence before redosing.
Also, can anyone give example of a live bearing arthropod, aquatic or terrestial. I assume the redbugs are arthropods, can someone take an extreme close-up of the bug? I just want to see the jointed limbs.
 
Yes, redbugs are arthropods. Scorpions are livebearing arthropods.

The two times I have treated, I did the full 3 treatments with a week between each.
 
Thanks. If RB are indeed live bearers, why the need to redose (assuming interceptor is 100% effective)? Sorry, I am brain storming.
 
I did one and don't see anything. Most of my shrimp and crabs are still OK so it would be great to skip a 2nd and 3rd dose. I'll probably still go with the 2nd just to be sure

I dosed interceptor only once approx. 2 weeks ago and no signs yet. I continue to check the most susceptible acros as a precaution.

I can't say for sure that they are livebearers, only that I've never seen a redbug egg (and maybe one can't, as I'm sure they'd be really small) or egg cluster and that there are other live bearing arthropods.

The first time I thought they layed eggs and so multiple treatments made sense. Then I heard / read that they might be live bearers, but the second time I treated I did 3 treatments anyway.

It's possible that interceptor is "only" 95% effective. I'd still use it though.
 
Reef Bass is right. I've seen many pods scurry around in my tank after the treatment was done. Btw, If you guys have questions with anything Reef Bass has the answer
 
Thanks Brian, but I am still learning and still unintentionally kill stuff (sadness). I'm happy to relate my experiences.
 
I treated my tank over 2 months ago, one dose, I did not do a water change for 24 hours nor did I run carbon. I also increased the dose. The most symptomatic pieces is very close to the glass and the RB were easily seen on macro images. I continue to check by using macro images and have not seen a re-occurrence.
 
I did two doses over two weeks. I did not run my skimmer or run carbon. And then waited a month to reintroduce my invertebrates. All crustaceans died (cleaner shrimp, emerald crab, hermits) within days they were introduced. I may have overdosed since all of my dwarf ceriths died as well.

I had a shrimp that could not catch. he survived the first dose but the second did him in. I had some pods survive both treatments as well however a lot did kick it.
 
3 doses one week apart and turn off skimmer and remove carbon also .i have had no losses due to its use and i have used it quite a few times . you should do a 24 hr dip on any new corals in your sump . what i do is put a Tupperware container with saltwater from the tank and interceptor in my sump with an air stone in the container for 24 hrs and it has done wonders . i lost thousands in corals one time so now everything gets dipped for 24 hrs and i have no problems anymore .
