Interesting coral food

1 tsp oyster meat in 100ml of rodi water completely liquified with 125mg glutamine. Thats enough to turn 150g milky white and blow the top off the skimmer, so I need to turn it off for 30 minutes. Tank is completely clear within that 30 minutes. Causes what may be a feeding frenzy. I would assume its feeding because the tank clears so quickly with no filtration or carbon.

PM me if you want the forum I read about it.

Raw oyster meat?

no, the glutamine. You can get the canned oysters or clams at Safeway.

Update on this, it sounds a lot like Zeovit type feeding

Be careful running levels so high with the oyster and gln. If you have any thin flesh corals like tricolor's they will split the flesh the lenght of the branch. Also make sure your tank is truely low nutrient. Meaning no green algae, or refugium. If you have enough nutrients to grow anything green this oyster and gln feeding will cause you problems.

What are the problems? What causes the flesh to split? What does green algae do that's a problem?

flesh splits because the skeletons grow too fast. You need to feed in a nutrient depleted system, just like Zeovit.

Nutrients meaning phosphates, nitrite and nitrates. Basically you need a nutrient poor system which involves excellent skimming and good weekly WC. Like Zeo, it prolly needs the water parameters be as close to NSW such as the Alk levels to be between 7 and 8.

Well, my nitrates and nitrites are zero. Not sure about phosphates. Still, I think I'll let others blaze the path this time.
