interesting idea for a semi dry sump

Water would flow from the tank into the sump's first compartment. The skimmer would be in the second compartment which would be completely dry. The skimmer would pump water from th first compartment, the water would go through and out the pipes which would be connected to the zeo rector' s pump then go through the zeo reactor into a fluidized bed filter filled with purigen. The water would go through the bed filter into a calcium reactor. The water would flow out th CR into the refugium.

Please point out flaws and questions, comments, and critiscisms are welcome also. :D

Are you saying the skimmer pump would pump from this first compartment throught the skimmer and into a another compartment and then do other things? So the output of the skimmer feeds something else?

If so, it won't work very easily. The skimmer pump need to be balanced for the skimmer not the water in the first compartment.

What happens if your first compartment runs out of water because the pump is too strong or if the skimmer pump is drawing too little water.

Let's start with the first issue.

the output of the skimmer still feeds other things but the pipes would be very close together and all the equipment would be in the same compartment

You didn't answer my question about too much water or a lack of water in this first compartment.

I am not sure what your purpose is here?

There is no way to "PUMP" water from the first compartment into the skimmer and then from there to another compartment. YOur return pump and skimmer pump would have to be perfectly balanced.

Secondly, feeding another device from the output of the skimmer is about impossible. The back pressure of the other devices will cause the water in the skimmer to rise (overflow).

If you plan on having all that water go through the calcium reactor, then that will make the calcium reactor inneffective because there is no way you can lower the pH in the reactor

How about all equipment on the the same platform in the second compartment. The first compartment would overflow to the second. Each piece of equipment would draw its own water.
