interesting things to add?

Hey guys, i have a 55g tank, and i'm looking for maybe a few more things to add that are interesting to watch.

current inhabitants:
1 perc clown
1 damsel purple/yellow, trying to rehome currently.
bunch of blue leg hermits
1 scarlet hermit
2 feather duster works, larger size and one tiny one on the rocks about the size of a dime
a few nassarius snails
and a larger snail, turbo maybe? not entirely positive.

eventually i'd like to add some mushrooms to the tank aswell.

anyway, is there anything else i can add that would be fun to watch? i will eventually add another perc clown, and maybe 1 or 2 other fish, but im not in a large rush for fish. i get a kick out of all the other critters.

some kind of shrimp maybe? peppermint?

i'm very open to recommendations. i wouldnt mind keeping 1 small emerald crab around, would one of those hurt the feather dusters though?

I really like my fighting conch. He's pretty big but I think he's so fun and unique to watch. I rearranged my rock so he could do laps around the perimeter of the tank.

Definitely a midas blenny. As far as shrimp go I think cleaner shrimp would be my choice. They may not be as pretty as the red fire shrimp, but they add more to the tank with the cleaning of the fish and they are much more active than peppermint shrimp. Do you plan to have coral?

Pretty much only plan to add mushrooms at this point, I know that changes with time but I'm running with no sump so I'd rather save anything expensive for when I have more water and a sump setup.

if I do add anything it'd be the cheapest hardiest things I can find lol.

I was considering doing a diamond goby too fish wise. I'll look into the blenny, would I be able to do both with a pair of perc clowns?

A fire shrimp can be a hoot to watch, but mostly at feeding time. He runs around the tank like a madman trying to score some of the good stuff! He's also not afraid to steal food straight from the mouths of some of my LPS (open brain, dendrophyllia, acan) though.

For fun interaction, maybe consider a shrimp/goby pair? I'm a fan of the Yellow Watchman, but they're all pretty cool.

Also, a nice Euphylia like a Torch Coral, Hammer or Frogspawn can add some great color and movement to the tank. They can be found quite reasonably, and their care is not difficult.

My clowns host in a Torch Coral, it's pretty cool.

I like my cleaner shrimp, neat to watch them clean the fish. Also my fighting conch is neat. Serpent or brittle stars are also pretty neat, but may only come out at night

I have a serpent star and love it, it hides all day only coming out during feeding time and at night. That thing is so cool though when it does come out. I like watching it grab pellets and sting it's arms around in order to get from A to B...

My wife and daughter are scared to death of it because it's arms look like snakes which adds to the fun...I guess.

Goby & pistol pair definitely...... they don't need each other but it's a great combination for any reef tank.

Does the pistol shrimp kill other shrimp with its sonic wave when threatened? Least that's what I saw on youtube so have stayed away from my "community" peaceful shrimp tank (peppermints, cleaner and CBS). My CBS is probably the largest specimen in my tank including fish and he's been awesome, completely peaceful.

I have personally kept pistols with peppermints, skunks, and fire shrimp with no problem at all... The only one I haven't tried is the coral banded

Yeah i don't want anything that might cause too much havoc.

so far im really liking the ideas! just a list of what everyone has said so far:

emerald crab
midas blenny
diamond goby ( shrimp? if not a negative impact? )
cleaner shrimp
serpent star
frogspawn, torch coral, hammer

keep the ideas rolling guys,

Oh! i found a local selling a 75g with 55g sump stand, ro/di filter, t5 setup, with everything else needed, along with all the sand live rock and supplies for a scant $300. Going to give her a deposit tomorrow to hold it until i can arrange for a transport vehicle.

I guess her husband passed away, and shes selling his saltwater setup.

Ok. Then I would suggest an needle urchin for your 75g. One of my favourite things in my 75.

+1 for an urchin but I would go with a red or blue tuxedo. Toss in a few small frags you don't mind having moved around and prepare to be amused by the "camouflage."

i second the serpent stars just make sure not to buy the green species.
also i think starry blennies have a great personality and will always be doing something.
