Interruptus with bloated stomach

I bought a 4 inch interruptus on Saturday and am having trouble getting him to eat. The fish looked good at the store...breathing was normal...eyes are clear and came to the glass to take a look at me. She did have a few flukes which i took care of with a freshwater bath and prazi. What first looked like a full belly is starting to look like a swollen belly. I have tried everything for food and she shows no interest in anything. I went as far as to go diving and pick up some sponge covered rocks and a few different types of algae and nothing. I think her not eating is due to intestinal parasites. I have her in quarantine with maracyn 2 at double strength and has been so for 2 days. I have a few other small fish in there to show her how to eat and nothing. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what meds to try? I contacted the store for any suggestions they may have and they are willing to take her back but i want to try anything and everything before i do that. I am willing to try anything at this point. The fish still looks good and is active but i am starting to get a little concerned. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

Hi Happy,
I have tried that. I keep over 10 different types of flake and another 10 or so in pellet and nothing. I tried food soaked in vita chem and gvh and countless frozen as well. Any similiar experience with a positive result would be greatly appreciated.

some fishes require more time, before they start eatting. did you try fresh brineshrimp or frozen brineshrimp? I notice that when I get new fish they dont respond to flakes but are tempted by brine shrimp.

I have tried both. I am more concerned that an internal parasite is what is causing the fish not to be interested in eating. I have a multifasciatus and golden angel in qt with her and they are eating with no issues. I have to make a decision to keep trying or return the fish. I am very concerned because i had a conspic come in a few months ago with similiar symptoms and lost him in 3 days and i can keep going on her or get a credit back for her. I want the fish more because i know it will be difficult to find another one but it will be costly if i lose this one. I wouldn't be so concerned with not eating yet but the swollen belly has got my attention. Thanx again.

No i don't have any pics. Like i said it isn't really bad yet but it is noticeable. It just looks swollen behind the pec fins. When i got the fish it just looked full. It came in a week ago and has not eaten so the rest of the body is thinning slightly so you can see the belly area is still swollen and i have been watching the fish and have not seen it deficate yet. Has anyone tried the epsom salt method to see if it maybe a blockage? I may try that as a last resort.

Where did the fish come from? Interrutpus are generally very hardy fish.
I know the fish hasn't eaten but did you happen to see it poop when you first got it and if so was it stringy?
I would recommend that you try and find some food with metronidazole in it. I have always used this to cure internal parasites and it works the best IMOP.
You can try putting B12 vitamin in the tank. It will help prompt the fish to want to eat.
If you can get the fish to eat and recover, remove the local sponge that you placed in the tank. Atlantic Sponge is possibly toxic to fish!

I would get this fish by itself. The stress factor alone of being with another angels is probably making things worse.

PraziPro has worked wonders for me. Three days after the first dose I do a 75% water change and redose.

On one of the other forums I have pics posted of what came out of a Paracentropyge multifaciata. It isn't the most attractive of creatures! Both would not eat initially but once in hypo and the tank being dosed with the PraziPro both started to eat adult brine loaded with PraziPro. Now both are eating very well and producing nice fecals.

If I recall I had a dwarf angel a while back that had a fat stomach as well but for 3 days it didnt eat than it started to breath really fast and it died later. I'd return it.

Trigger..i don't want to name the store. Like i said earlier i did not see it poop at all. It had been a total of 8 days and it had not eaten where i normally would not be greatly concerned all the other symptoms were pointing to something worse. I did not see any improvement in QT so i chose to return the fish to the store this evening. I tried everything i could think of and it showed no interest in eating. The swelling was getting worse and i noticed when i got home tonight the breathing was a little more rapid and when the fish stopped swimming it had to paddle it's pec fins to stay upright. All bad signs i had gone thru with a conspic and as much as i wanted to keep her i just had a bad feeling. Thanx everybody for your input and suggestions.
