Thanks DM.
Here's an interesting story ... in the chronicle of Ghengis-Prawn.
Today I went and bought a Yellow Tailed Damesel as a "New Years Present" for Ghengis (that's an $8 snack which is more than I pay for my own lunches lol). I had it in a plastic bag at the top of my 10 Gallon (picture above). Well, I left for a bit and when I came back, my small Mantis Leviathon who was hiding in the rock now ever since I got Ghengis) was attacking the plastic bag trying to get the damesel.
Ghengis was busy smashing the crap out of a periwinkle (which I bought at the grocery store real cheap) so he payed no mind. Well, I though Leviathon had long since became a snack for Ghengis, but apprently he was hiding out.
So, I decided if he'd lived that long I should get a separate aquarium for Leviathon, so I went out and bought a 3 Gallon for him.
So that was step one. But now I had to get him out of the 10 Gallon, so here is what I did.
1. Filled 3 Gallon with mixture of fresh Argonite (sp?) from a bad and used argonite from my 10 Gallon.
2. Topped 3 Gallon with water from my existing 10 Gallon.
3. Used rope to pick up my 10 lb live rock (see picture above) which housed both my large peacock (Ghengis) and my little (1.5 inch) green Leviathon (as yet unidentified, but definitely a smasher). Ghengis obviously fled from the moving rock, but Leviathon remained in one of the small holes "somewhere".
4. Placed the rock in a bucket on the side with about 6 or 7 inches of marine water. Splashed room temperature fresh water over the rock until Leviathon exited the rock into the bucket. Immediately scooped him up with net and placed him in ready 3 Gallon.
5. Scooped Ghengis with larger net out of 10 Gallon, placed him in buckwith (without rock) and left him there for about 3 minutes while I did the following
6. Move some smaller rocks around 10 Gallon, put large live rock back in.
7. Put Ghengis back in.
Now I have 2 separate tanks both housing a Mantis Shrimp. One thing to note here, and this is probably the point to it all, is that Ghengis was in the back which had about 1/2 (6 inches of salt water) and 1/2 fresh water (as I had to pour the water over the rock to get leviathon out). He was in this water for a bout 2-3 minutes, after which time he went "limp". When I put him back into the 10 Gallon, I actually thought he was going to die, as he was on his back fora nother 2 or 3 minutes. I prodded him just a bit to get him to repel away from me and regain his "erect"/verticall position.
It has been about 1.5 hours since he was out of the 10 Gallon and he apears to be recovering, albeita little more slowly that I would like. I'm going to stay with him for a few hours and see if he's interested in a late afternoon snack.
A sure sign that he is OK is if/when I see him start rebuilding his cave doors (he loves pililng the rocks up and closing in all the access points except one).
I love this hobby ....
Love thy stomadopod!

P.S. - I'd really love to see more pics of other's Mantis Shrimp, as I am hoping to get a huge collection of pics and put together website of my own dedicated to mantis shrjmp (I have a domain and a good server, just need some time to put together the page).
